Pacific Northwest National Laboratory PhD Intern - Computer Science in Salt Lake City, Utah

Overview

Protecting U.S. residents and visitors is among our nation’s highest priorities. As adversaries gain access to sophisticated technologies and materials, the threats grow more dynamic and complex—from cyber and nuclear to chemical and biological weapons of mass effect and other forms of terrorism. The PNNL national security mission employs our researchers, tools, and technologies to play a key role in advancing the ability to identify and secure nuclear materials, detect weapons of mass effect, manage nonproliferation treaties, secure our nation's borders, and protect critical infrastructures. PNNL’s scientific discovery and capabilities—rooted in innovative theory, methods, algorithms, and tools—are enabling stronger, more resilient technologies and systems to safeguard national security. Coupled with decades of radiological and nuclear materials expertise, advanced computing and threat analysis capabilities, and a broad fundamental science base, we are identifying and countering emerging threats that have significant impact at home and around the globe.

Come work on the nation’s most pressing challenges while performing cutting edge research and development. The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is seeking highly motivated interns to support its wide variety of national security projects. Our projects run the gamut, from cybersecurity to artificial intelligence to data fusion and visualization to energy and climate security. We support government sponsors across the range of the national security community.

As an intern, you will be a core member of one of our hybrid teams working on these problems. You will be expected to bring your energy, skills, experiences, and curiosity to our challenges to help devise novel solutions to the problems at hand.

We are looking for a variety of skillsets to include data engineers / scientists, software engineers, computer scientists, cybersecurity engineers, machine learning engineers, energy scientists, climate scientists, policy experts, mathematicians / statisticians, and more. If your domain is not listed, that’s okay, still reach out, let’s have a conversation, and see if there might be a good project fit.
