Our Paratransit department helps those with disabilities stay connected by providing them with services to keep them moving and connected to the world around them.

As our Paratransit Eligibility Specialist, you will:

  • Determine the eligibility of our customers to receive additional assistance in using our transportation services under the Americans with Disability Act (ADA.)
  • Review applications, conduct in-person interviews, and perform physical and/or functional eligibility assessments of an applicant. You will ascertain the applicants functional ability to ride fixed-route services. (Note: you may be required to be on your feet for an extended time while doing these assessments. You may be walking up to 5 miles a day.)
  • Minimize risk and budgetary impacts to UTA by appropriately interpreting assessment information including interpreting additional reference sources as needed.
  • Communicate UTA policies and ADA guidelines to applicants, general inquiries regarding ADA paratransit eligibility, and how it all relates to fixed-route services.
  • Create and maintain accurate, detailed records and reports.
  • Provide administrative backup support to the ADA Evaluation Office Administrator and Mobility Center as needed.

WORK SCHEDULE

  • Normally Monday-Friday, 8-5, but may be subject to change, if needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • An Associate's degree in a related field is required.
  • Three years working with the public, including elderly, physically, developmentally, and/or cognitively disabled customers in a training-related field.
  • Must have a valid Utah Drivers License. Must be a safe driver with no more than 4 moving violations in the past 3 years and no convictions for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs in the past 10 years.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) preferred; Sensitivity to people with various disabilities and their transportation needs
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, and Excel, required
  • Speak a second language (preferred but not required)
  • demanding physical assessments of our customers,
  • Excellent decision-making and interpersonal skills
  • Communicate with a variety of people including managers, employees, customers, and the public; Communicate with customers with speech difficulties
  • Work in a high-stress environment and meet deadlines

  • This job requires regular and predictable attendance.

Pay Range: $26.923 or more, depending on experience
