Job Summary

We are looking for someone who wants to play a key part in marketing library services and collections, thereby helping students succeed. You’ll be working in the heart of the campus at the Marriott Library where students come for everything from computing, to collections and databases, to reference help and VR and gaming. You’ll gain real-world marketing and public relations experience and experiment with different ways to talk to students. We can help you develop your technical skills, but being a people person and a great story teller are essential for this position. If you are savvy with social media and enjoy keeping up with the latest trends, this job will give you a chance to explore how to engage students on multiple platforms.

This position is currently designed as a hybrid of on-campus and remote work. Specific telecommuting arrangements will be based on the needs of the position and authorized at the discretion of the supervisor.

Aligned with the University’s commitment to “Celebrating U Completely,” we seek qualified applicants who bring perspectives and experiences that will enrich and strengthen our organization and enhance our commitment to access and belonging. We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds, including those who may not have followed a traditional educational or professional path. We are interested in identifying and interviewing candidates with experience and expertise that will contribute to advancing our mission to provide everyone with access to information resources and educational opportunities.

The University will not sponsor a work visa for this position.

Responsibilities

Working with two other professionals on the team, you will be involved in all aspects of our marketing and public relations activities. We will rely on you to create student-centered content to support social media campaigns, publish blog posts and announcements using content generated by internal clients, and produce photos and videos of events, exhibitions, and students/faculty for use in PR materials. You will play an important role in our outreach and brand awareness efforts by helping to plan and manage tabling sessions in the library and on campus, creating displays, submitting events to community and campus calendars, purchasing promotional items, and managing distribution of marketing materials such as print posters and branded merchandise.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). One year of related experience and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Experience in different styles of writing, publishing software packages and advertising concepts may be preferred.

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences

Experience with creating content on TikTok, Instagram Reels, and other short form video. Strong writing skills. Experience in event planning.

The duties, qualifications, and preferences listed in this posting are intended to give applicants an understanding of the role we are seeking to fill and the types of skills, experience, and education that may have prepared someone to be effective in this role. We do not expect any candidate to be a perfect match for this list or to perform all of the duties with equal proficiency on day one. In your resume and cover letter, please highlight the most relevant qualifications you would bring to this position based on the posting, and tell us how your background, perspective, and experience will help us fulfill our mission and meet our goals.
