State of Utah - Jobs Journey Plumber in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

Are you a Licensed Plumber *looking for job stability, great benefits, paid time off, and 12 paid holidays?  If so, we have the job for you!  The Utah State Prison seeks an experienced Licensed Journey Plumber with a strong work ethic and a can-do attitude. This position is not public safety certified and does not require peace officer status or certification. The rate of pay will be $32.35 or based on UDC policy. *Principal Duties As a Licensed Journey Plumber, you will:

  • work within a correctional facility and perform journey-level plumbing duties under general supervision.
  • maintain or repair plumbing by replacing or mending broken pipes, opening clogged drains, and pipe assemblies, or installation of plumbing systems or components.
  • instruct and train staff and inmates who are involved in providing maintenance to the facility.

Requirements Candidates need the following to be considered:

  • Must be licensed as a Journeyman or Master Plumber.

The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate for this position:

  • Have commercial plumbing experience.

  • know about record keeping, ability to read blueprints and building codes, use measuring instruments, and knows how to cut, thread, or bend pipe to the required angle.

  • Knowledge of how to operate and use hand and power tools or machines.

  • Have 4-plus years of work and school.

  • Has to experience with all or some of the following:

    • Plumbing installation and maintenance, domestic, water, sanitary, sewers, storm drain systems, fixture repair, replacement and drain cleaning.
    • Boiler repair and replacement, boiler control repair and replacement.
    • Water condition equipment installs and repairs.
    • Fire suppression and fire hydrant replacement and repair.
    • Sewer pre-treatment equipment.

  • 3 medical plan options. Choose a Traditional or High Deductible Health Plan. There is an Opt-Out Cash Benefit option for those who have other medical insurance coverage.

      Retirement - Utah Retirement Systems (URS):

  • Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems prior to 7/1/2011 are in the Tier I Public Employees System.

  • Employees hired on or after 7/1/2011 and who have never been in the URS retirement system have two options for retirement in the Tier II System. 
    • Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary between both plans (pension and 401(k))
    • Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary to a 401(k) plan only.

  Paid Time Off:

  • Annu al leave and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual, 4 hours sick).
  • Annual leave amounts increase with years of service.
