Genetic Counselor
Are you a Genetic Counselor? The Utah Public Health Laboratory needs you to help with the Newborn Screening Program. This position will provide the needed expertise for reviewing and reporting biochemical and genetic screening results,as well as providing genetic counseling to families. Responsibilities:
- Have daily communication,exchange and follow-up with laboratory personnel,hospital personnel,pediatric clinics,sub-specialty clinics,regional and national metabolic or genetic screening organizations regarding newborn screening results.
- Interface with hospitals,providers,families and the public including the Newborn Screening Laboratory,Metabolic Clinic,Cystic Fibrosis Clinic and other state agencies,regional and national metabolic or genetic screening organizations.
- Track and coordinate specimen collection on all abnormal and inconclusive results.
- Coordinate diagnostic laboratory testing for newborns with abnormal screens.
- [Interpret and communicate laboratory results as well as educate primary care providers and families regarding advanced diagnostic requirements and next steps for clinical care. ]{#isPasted}
- Make specific recommendations to pediatric health care providers for appropriate follow-up of abnormal results for current and newly added conditions to the newborn screening panel.
- Provide assistance and support to hospitals and clinics regarding proper newborn screening procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be currently licensed as a Genetic Counselor per the Genetic Counselors Licensing Act
- Experience in a patient care setting.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to explain complex health information appropriately to various audiences.
- Knowledge of pediatric,genetic,and public health.
- Strong computer skills.
- Responsive and timely in responses to various correspondence.
