Job Summary 

Guadalupe Charter School is composed of innovative, dynamic, and professional faculty members. The assistant principal is a faculty member whose main priority is assisting the principal in the daily administrative duties of the school and the management of the paraprofessionals.  The assistant principal is a part of the larger Guadalupe School Agency, and therefore is expected to follow the requirements of Guadalupe Agency and Charter School's mission, goal, and objectives when interacting with students, parents, staff, and the community.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or higher, with a major concentration of work in educational administration 

  • At least five years of successful teaching experience

  • Preferred not required leadership experience in an educational setting, and coaching experience in an educational setting

Duties

The Assistant Principal will assist the Principal to:

  • Promote and refine Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports systems established in the school. 

  • Work with the Director of Special Education and Behavior Specialists to assure the appropriate instruction for special needs/at-risk students. 

  • Support school initiatives and improvement plans, to improve school outcomes and implement initiatives to accomplish sustainable results by adopting various approaches and engaging a variety of stakeholders to support school goals. 

  • Support the daily operations of the school.

  • Create a master schedule to effectively utilize available resources.

  • Attend state meetings as directed by the principal and provide detailed notes including action items.

  • Attend administrative meetings, faculty meetings, professional development and other trainings.

  • Be willing to present professional development with coaching to the faculty and paraprofessionals.

  • Be able to implement feedback from the principal as to instructional leadership, administrative duties and overall job performance.

As directed by the Principal, the Assistant Principal: 

  • Manages classroom paraprofessionals, maintains timecards and submits bi-monthly payroll reports.

  • Creates and adjusts paraprofessionals' schedules based on student data

  • Holds bi-monthly meetings and provides professional development including coaching for the parapros.

  • Evaluates performance and effectiveness of parapros.

  • Maintains records and ensures parapros are highly qualified. 

  • Chairs the Behavior Team Meetings.

  • Assists with student behavior and discipline.

  • Interacts with students in a constructive manner to encourage each individual to perform at their highest level. 

  • Possesses strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize a multitude of tasks. 

  • Maintains relations with parents, parent groups, and school volunteers and outside agencies.

  • Participates in school and agency-wide activities, in-services and committees, as appropriate.

  • Ensures quality instruction is taking place in all classrooms. 

  • Conducts frequent classroom observations with actionable feedback conversations in alignment with instructional and professional responsibilities and USBE standards to promote reflection and growth.

  • Analyzes and interprets school-level data; works with staff to develop school performance plans that improve student academic growth and ensures the alignment of the curriculum, instruction, and assessment to promote continuous school improvement.

  • Assist in school-wide state asses sments (Benchmarks, end of year testing, etc.).

  • Attend professional learning community meetings of assigned grade level teams. 

  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal.

  • Demonstrated success in curriculum and instruction at the elementary level, including a variety of evidence-based instructional practices.

  • Demonstra ed success in leading the improvement of student learning.

  • Demonstrated successful leadership experiences in staff leadership, supervision, and evaluation, and demonstrated ability to work effectively with teachers to improve instruction. 

  • Demonstrated ability to foster an environment that focuses on quality results while motivating, developing, and supporting staff, encouraging continuous improvement, and working effectively as a member of a team.

  • Demonstrated success in exercising good judgment, insight, self-awareness, and integrity.

  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to continue one's own lifelong learning, to develop talent and leadership skills in others, to provide critical feedback, and to receive critical feedback in order to maintain high standards for one's self and the school. 

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form.
