POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Aquatic Director, provides leadership to all instructional areas of the Aquatics Program, while maintaining safety to all participants and support and portray the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provide exceptional customer service by greeting all participants, maintaining a clean and safe facility and demonstrating professional conduct at all times.

Be familiar with American Red Cross Learn to Swim and YMCA Progressive Swim Lesson levels and guidelines

Adapt teaching approaches to the age, experience and ability of participants so they can meet course objectives

Communicate regularly with participants/parents to ensure they are aware of progress

Complete required paperwork in a timely manner

Conduct oneself at all times in a manner of professionalism that aligns with the values, philosophies and standards of the YMCA

Organize and put away needed class equipment

Attend staff meetings and participate in regular in-service training sessions as required.

Follow and enforce all pool rules.

Must sign the Salina Family YMCA Code of Conduct, Confidentiality agreement, and Handbook agreements.

Follow all YMCA policies and procedures.

All other duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum age of 16

Thorough knowledge and application of swimming and water safety skills and be able to teach those skills.

Understanding of facility characteristics, rules, policies and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.

Leadership, public service, communication and decision-making skills.

Certifications: American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, YMCA Progressive Swim Lesson Instructor, and/or on the job training, required before hire

Certifications: American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer, American Red Cross First Aid, within 6 months

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must regularly lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds, and occasionally move up to seventy-five (75) pounds in the form of supplies or equipment.

Able to sit, stand and bend to perform appropriate tasks.

Must be able to move at an appropriate pace to respond to emergencies.

Follow all safety requirements of the Salina Family YMCA.

May be required to stand for extended periods of time.

Work in different temperature environments.

EFFECTS ON END RESULTS

This position directly affects the overall instructional swim classes. When done properly, the program will have a positive and safe atmosphere for each participant.
