Overview: Campus Police Officers support the campus community, while providing exceptional customer service to the students, staff, and faculty in the community. Primary duties are patrolling the campus via foot or patrol vehicle, securing, and checking buildings, grounds, and adjacent areas, investigating crimes and other incidents, and enforcing state laws as well as departmental rules and regulations of the institution. Works in collaboration with the local community and the Salem State University Police Department. Shift, Days Off and Meal Break:TBD by shift bidding process; subject to change according to departmental needs. Must be available for off-shift overtime, including compulsory callbacks. Minimum Entrance Requirements and Qualifications: 1. Be eligible for certification as a law enforcement officer by the Police Officer Standards and Training Commission (POSTC) after satisfying all requirements. o Successfully satisfy all requirements and pass the Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) prescreening process, including the physical fitness and endurance tests (e.g., HRD Physical Abilities Test, Cooper Test). Successfully complete the MPTC approved basic police training academy or be eligible for an official MPTC exemption. o Failure to meet the entrance requirements or to successfully complete the course of training shall result in dismissal or, for lateral appointment within the bargaining unit, return to previously held position in accordance with the AFSCME Agreement. * The candidate must be a U.S. citizen and at least 21 years old on the day the training academy begins * The candidate must possess a high school diploma or have passed the High School Equivalency Testing Program (HiSET), formally known as the GED * The candidate must successfully complete an entry-level academy operated by or approved by The Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) 1. Ability to pass a pre-employment medical exam 2. Ability to pass an extensive background investigation and CORI Check. No person, who has been convicted of a felony or any offense punishable under M.G.L. Chapter 94C (drug law violations); or has been convicted of a misdemeanor and has been confined to any jail or house of correction as punishment for said crime, M.G.L. Chapter 22 C section 14, will be considered for employment 3. Must be able to successfully complete a psychological exam 4. Ability to obtain and maintain a MA License to Carry (LTC-A) license 5. Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D motor vehicle operator's license 6. Ability to pass a drug and/or alcohol test Preferred Qualifications: 1. Graduation from an approved MPTC full-time police academy or have equivalent training that meets the exemption requirements of POSTC and MPTC 2. Associate or bachelor’s degree in criminal justice 3. Previous law enforcement, security, or equivalent military experience 4. Possession of current CPR and First Responder certifications 5.
