Position Summary:
The Kitchen Expediter is responsible for ensuring that all food orders are executed efficiently, accurately, and promptly. This role involves coordinating between the kitchen staff and servers to ensure that dishes are prepared to specifications and delivered to guests in a timely manner. The Expediter also ensures the quality and presentation of all dishes leaving the kitchen.
Key Responsibilities:
- Order Coordination:
- Review tickets and coordinate the preparation and timing of dishes from different stations.
- Ensure that all components of a dish are ready at the same time and assembled for delivery.
- Quality Control:
- Inspect dishes for accuracy, presentation, and quality.
- Ensure all dishes meet restaurant standards before they are sent out.
- Communication:
- Act as the liaison between kitchen staff and servers, relaying orders and modifications accurately.
- Communicate with kitchen staff regarding special requests or dietary restrictions.
- Timing Management:
- Monitor the progress of orders and expedite the preparation of dishes as needed to ensure timely service.
- Coordinate the timing of dishes for tables with multiple orders.
- Troubleshooting:
- Address any issues or delays in order preparation and find quick solutions to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Handle any last-minute changes or modifications to orders.
- Sanitation and Safety:
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the expediting station.
- Adhere to health and safety regulations in the handling of food.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with chefs, cooks, and other kitchen staff to streamline the preparation process.
- Assist in training new kitchen staff on expediting procedures and standards.
- Inventory and Supplies:
- Ensure that necessary supplies for plating and presentation are available and replenished as needed.
- Communicate with the kitchen manager about inventory needs related to expediting.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Previous experience in a kitchen or restaurant environment is preferred.
- Experience in a fast-paced, high-volume restaurant is a plus.
- Skills:
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Keen attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure.
- Knowledge:
- Understanding of kitchen operations and various cooking methods.
- Familiarity with food safety and sanitation standards.
