Beacon Hill Staffing Group, LLC Sr. Data Scientist / Computational Biology in Saint Paul, Minnesota

The HEOR & DSA, Health Economics, Outcomes Research & Data Science Analytics department is seeking a dedicated Computational Biologist to join the Data Science Analytics team. The selected individual will support genetically defined disease programs across our portfolio. The role will focus on building, maintaining computational methodologies and performing the analysis of omics data from in house and publicly available biological databases. This is a great opportunity to be part of a team who delivers data-driven and practical insight by leveraging computational science from preclinical to late clinical development stage. Key Responsibilities

  • Be a key contributor of computational/bioinformatic and data-mining strategies, analytical execution and data interpretations supporting all stages of R&D.
  • Develop and perform innovative computational analysis of multimodal data to deliver impactful results on target identification and patient biomarker selection, by analyzing population genetics and genomics data from large-scale databases.
  • Build internal analytical capabilities for DNAseq, RNAseq, scRNAseq, and other omics data
  • Analyze heterogenous phenotypic and genomic datasets produced internally and from public repositories. This includes, performing association studies on complexes phenotype - genotype data, extracting and analyzing clinical & other phenotypical information.
  • Identify opportunities to apply the latest advancements in Machine Learning (ML) to solve computational/bioinformatic challenges by integrating diverse data types including omics, clinical, and other RWE.
  • Participate, interact, and influence interdisciplinary project teams to drive effective decision-making by mining large-scale data and developing predictive signatures and models.
  • Integrate other high-dimensional data (Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), single-cell sequencing, metabolomics and proteomics, and Translational genomic data) supporting all stages of R&D, contributing to the construction of databases and web portals for result retrieval and visual/graphic display of internal and external published studies.
  • Keep a keen eye on emerging statistical genomic, ML and generative AI methodologies.
  • Collaborate cross functionally to facilitate interpretation and deliver practical insight from the data analyzed.
  • Conduct scientific presentations for internal/external audiences.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team.
  • Establish best practices among Data Sciences analysts and help the Data Sciences infrastructure development.

Requirements

  • PhD degree in computational biology, or related field; or a related master's degree with at least 2+ years of industry experience.
  • Demonstrated record of handling Next generation sequencing data, including genomic and transcriptomic data (RNAseq, scRNAseq, etc..)
  • Experience in statistical genomics: Bayesian inference, Meta-analysis, Heritability and mixed models, Mendelian randomization, is preferred.
  • Proficient with processing and analysis of high-dimensional RWE.
  • Experienced with data visualization tools and creating reproducible workflows with an emphasis on Unix, Git, and RMarkdown or Jupyter is preferred.
  • Experience using AWS-backed cloud computing platforms, and preferably DNAnexus
  • Familiarity with common public 'omics data repositories (such as Gene Expression Omnibus, NCBI databases, Ensembl, dbGAP etc.)
  • Technical proficiency and experience in languages such are R, Python
  • Demonstrated record of using machine learning or deep learning algorithms in heath space
  • Experience in conventional NGS analysis tools is a plus: BCFtools, VCFtools, PLINK, Regenie, GATK, bedtools, etc.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and a strong sense of accountability and scientific rigor is a must.
  • Strong communication skills demonstrated with peer-reviewed publications and/or conference presentations.
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to influence and drive decision-making.
  • Deep curiosity about emerging trends in machine learning and generative AI.
