Western Specialty Contractors Field Safety Manager in Saint Louis, Missouri

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The person filling this position has a responsibility to contribute to the overall risk management activities of the corporation and reports to the Safety Director. The person in this position is a member of the Safety Advisory Committee and through the committee, contributes to the overall safety culture of the corporation. The person who fills this job position will:

  • Meet with and coordinate goals, activities and schedules with the branch manager, and branch superintendent.
  • Schedule and balance time with minimal daily direction
  • Operate within the budget
  • Schedule activities and establish branch goals with each branch manager.
  • Perform sampling on the jobsite as necessary. Sampling to include silica, noise, lead, isocyanate, asbestos, mold, pcb, etc.
  • Evaluate sampling results and determine best practices to minimize overexposures.
  • Evaluate and audit job hazards and assist branches to eliminate injuries and loss producing behaviors and conditions.
  • Completed a "Job Safety Check Sheet" on each job and give a copy to the foreman before leaving the job.
  • Assist the branches identify and comply with governmental compliance issues regarding OSHA, DOT, EPA and other regulatory agencies.
  • At the end of each branch visit meet with the branch manager and review the results of the visit and establish plans for improvement as needed.
  • Distribute a copy of the "Job Safety Check Sheet" to the Superintendent, Br. Manager, Division Manager, Division Superintendent and the Home Office Safety Department.
  • Respond to branch requests for help with safety concerns.
  • Assist the branches develop and use job specific safety plans.
  • Provide safety and leadership training and "Best Practices" skills to superintendents and foremen.
  • Develop and provide safety-training programs for all branches employees.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents in order to discover solutions to conditions that lead to accidents.
  • Work with the Claim Manager to analyze claims, spot trends and recommend corrective action
  • Participate in the design, editing and production of handbooks, safety meeting outlines formats, newsletters, audiovisual presentations, manuals, payroll stuffers and other instructional and procedural publications.
  • Participate in the organizational planning, administration and instruction of the Superintendent Development Program.
  • Prepare special reports to all levels of management

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor Degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene or related field
  • 5+ years safety experience is a plus (Construction Industry, preferred)
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus - Ability to read, write, and speak fluently
  • Ability to travel 75%
  • Sound Industrial Hygiene Analysis and Sampling Practices
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Willingness to continue education
  • Demonstrated ability in training others
  • Position is exposed to construction and environmental hazards. May include dirty, dusty, cold, hot, high work, etc.

  • Automobile
  • Camera and video equipment
  • Industrial Safety measurement equipment including; Sound level meters; Dust and vapor collection pumps, Respirator fit test equipment
  • Personal Computer including the Microsoft Office Suite of Programs.
