Job Duties: Maintains a safe and secure work environment, performs various unskilled and skilled tasks including but not limited to: ability to perform and shut down plant procedures. Examines computer control systems and adjusts as necessary. Starts, adjusts, and repairs pumps as needed. Adjusts chemical feeders and pumps as needed. Monitors water usage, backwashes filters, monitors distribution system for usage, and controls pumps as needed. Performs laboratory analysis to determine chemical constituents of water; e.g. PH, hardness, alkalinity, chlorine, fluoride, phosphate, stability, etc. Performs preventative and service maintenance of equipment and facilities, e.g. inspects and cleans filters, changes oil, and lubricates motors, pumps, and other moving parts. Adjusts belts, paints equipment and parts of water treatment plant. Performs routine maintenance work such as: sweeping, mopping, cleaning, sanding, painting, weed trimming, mowing grass, and general water plant housekeeping duties, etc.

 

Additional Job Duties

May perform duties of Class I Operator as assigned.

 

Major Work Characteristics:

Essential employee, mandatory overtime, knowledge of safe work practices. Ability to understand: plant drawings, lab procedures, equipment manuals, etc. Maintain cooperative relations with general public.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Education, valid driver's license

     

Unusual Work Conditions

May be exposed to various extreme weather conditions. Will work primarily afternoon shifts, may work weekend shifts, will need to fill in for higher classified operators on sick and or vacation leave. Exposed to dangerous power equipment, chemicals (chlorine, fluoride, etc.), may need to enter small tanks.

 

Must obtain Class I OEPA Water Supply Operator License within two years of hire.
