Saginaw ISD Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Saginaw, Michigan

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. USW-Support Staff Group.
  2. 2 openings, Full-time positions, 210 Days per year, 8 hours per day
  3. Rate of pay is $22.99 per hour.

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for providing healthcare services and the implementation of healthcare programs for students with healthcare needs during school as delegated, assigned, and supervised by the School Nursing Administrator. This position will assist the School Nursing Administrator in the provision of health care-related services to allow a positive educational opportunity for students by meeting individual healthcare needs of students as identified in the student's IEP/IFSP. In addition, the LPN assigned will also support students being transported with medical needs along with supporting children and families in the Early On Program

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Reports to the School Nursing Administrator for assignment.
  2. Provides student specific health related services as delegated/assigned by the School Nursing Administrator.
  3. Maintains and updates medical records for students in accordance with building/program and Michigan Department of Health guidelines.
  4. Receives student specific training in the provision of health related services.
  5. Administers medications as directed by the School Nursing Administrator. Responsible for the administration of medications in the absence of the School Nurse(s).
  6. Assists the School Nursing Administrator in the development and implementation of student health-related training programs.
  7. Attends clinical meetings as assigned and directed by the School Nursing Administrator.
  8. Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in the school.
  9. Communicates with parents/guardians and staff as directed by the School Nursing Administrator regarding medical/health care procedures for students.
  10. As directed, assists the School Nursing Administrator, Building Administrator and Staff in planning and implementation of behavior management procedures for students.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned by the School Nursing Administrator.

MEDICAL TRANSPORT RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Individual will be responsible for the medical care needs during specialized transport AM and PM runs
  2. Individual will be responsible for a limited assessment to ensure safety and health for transport.
  3. Ensure medical equipment, medication and "To Go Bag" is present and in proper working order.
  4. Give and receive hand off report from staff/caregiver prior to transport.
  5. Complete proper documentation in a timely manner.
  6. Act as a liaison between family and school personnel to maintain the health and well-being of students.
  7. Notify Nursing Administrator or RN Coordinator of any emergent issues.
  8. Clean and maintain ISD medical equipment.
  9. Make Nursing Supervisor aware of any supplies needed in a timely manner.
  10. The ability to recognize emergency situations and implement nursing interventions as outlined by Physician Orders and Emergency Action Plan.
  11. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

EARLY ON RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direction of the RN assigned to Early On, the LPN will conduct home visits to support the individual needs of infants and toddlers in the Early On Program who have medical needs

Coordinate with outside medical providers regarding plans of care and support for infants on caseload

Complete necessary training as required through EOTTA for Early On Services

Complete all required documentation and Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs) for Early On children assigned to caseload
