Summary:

Provides leadership and supervision to the Integrated Peer Support team as they apply the tools that they have developed in their own recovery, as well as the philosophy and values of Intentional Peer Support, with participants of Behavioral Health Homes (BHH), Certified Community Behavioral Health Centers (CCBHC), Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) and Mobile Crisis Teams. Carries primary responsibility for the day-to-day functioning of the Integrated Peer Support program. Promotes the practice of Intentional Peer Support and the philosophy of Wellness and Recovery as an alternative approach to more traditional behavioral health services for adult consumers.

This position requires travel to all Sweetser's Behavioral Health Home locations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Wellness and Recovery Duties and Responsibilities

  • Fully understands and can actively implement the three principles and four tasks of Intentional Peer Support.

  • Models relationship building, based on the four tasks of intentional peer support, with participants, volunteers and colleagues.

  • Understands and actively implements the Eight Dimensions of Wellness as described by SAMHSA.

  • Models the attributes of respect, trust, sensitivity and confidentiality.

  • Supports and models healthy relationships.

Program: Integrated Peer Support

  • Provides leadership for Intentional Peer Support Integrated staff.

  • Assists the Recovery Services Director in hiring direct reports.

  • Monitors and continuously evaluates staff performance.

  • Provides regularly scheduled supervision on site or virtually for all Integrated Peer Staff

  • Establishes schedules, to ensure adequate coverage.

  • Works collaboratively with BHH and CCBHC supervisors to support Integrated Peers.

  • Assists the Recovery Services Director in establishing best practice guidelines and developing content recommendations.

  • Maintains databases, files, records, reports, and other information related to program(s).

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS:

  • Be committed to the mission, vision, and values of the organization.

  • Works collaboratively as a member of a team with various groups of staff, depending on the issue addressed.

  • Assures quality in work performed to facilitate the delivery of quality services.

  • Reports accidents and injuries in a timely fashion, demonstrates safe housekeeping practices, notifies supervisor of potential health and safety concerns immediately, participates in health and safety training as required, understands and follows all Sweetser health and safety policies.

  • Understands and complies with all Sweeter policies and procedures.

  • Actively participates in ongoing supervision and team meetings.

  • Actively participates in the BHH Supervisor’s Meeting.

  • Provides timely and accurate paperwork; including timesheets and expense reports.

  • Actively engages the assigned manager whenever you have questions or concerns.

  • Provides the assigned manager with updated information regarding your availability.

  • Ability to support and recognize the important role that volunteers play. Sweetser employees work with, support, collaborate with volunteers, and promote opportunities for volunteer engagement.

  • Follow Suicide Safer Care practices.

  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Provisional CIPSS Certification required within 12 months of hire date.

  • State of Maine Certified Intentional Peer Support Specialist (CIPSS) Certification preferred.

  • Meet the annual State of Maine requirements to maintain CIPSS Certification.

  • Staff must maintain a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and adequate insurance.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Lived experience of Recovery from Mental Illness or Co-occurring Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and is willing to self-identify with peers on this basis in the community.

  • One (1) year of supervisory experience preferred.

  • Paid, or unpaid, peer support experience preferred.

  • One (1) year of group facilitation preferred.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Demonstrates understanding of Intentional Peer Support within 90 days of hire.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of personal Recovery.

  • Ability to be “emotionally present”; recognize when you are not, seek support and communicate this to the assigned manager.

  • Ability to work with diverse populations and accept differences in perspective and values.

  • Intermediate computer skills including the expectation of utilizing Electronic Health Record software.

HIPAA REQUIREMENTS:

This position may involve working with information covered by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and incumbents will be required to be in compliance with HIPAA in the handling of this information.
