Job Description Summary

GE’s Power Conversion business, part of GE Vernova, provides electrification systems that are critical to customers’ power and energy needs for their high-performance applications. We work with some of the world’s major energy, maritime and industrial organizations, helping to enable a transition to energy efficiency and decarbonization, including through our specialist motors, drives and control technologies.

Job Description

We are looking for a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to work in the equipment design team within our systems engineering organisation. You will be responsible for developing our next generation of switchboards, electrical drives and distribution equipment for Marine, Naval and Power Generation applications, and for optimising our existing product portfolio to ensure it continues to meet our customer’s needs. You will be involved at all stages of the product development process from concept to manufacturing, collaborating with Project Managers, Technical Leads, and the power systems and power electronics teams to deliver on customer requirements.

Roles and Responsibilities

Create 3D CAD models and 2D drawings in PTC Creo and create and manage parts and BoMs in Siemens Teamcenter PLM system.

  • Perform engineering analyses using a combination of hand calculations and software tools.

  • Develop test plans and support physical testing of prototypes to validate your designs.

  • Collaborate with the product and project managers to set priorities, manage base cost, and effectively allocate resources per programs and projects requirement. Maintain an appropriate operating rhythm; driving simplification, efficiency, productivity, and overall team performance.

  • Responsible for use of engineering tools and processes to optimise engineering throughput and quality, and for ensuring that DFMA techniques are implemented in the design process.

  • Act as a technical point of contact for all mechanical engineering topics related to project work.

Essential Requirements

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, or relevant experience in a mechanical design engineering environment.

  • Significant engineering experience with good technical knowledge of manufacturing processes, sheetmetal design, DFMA and material selection.

  • Expertise in stress, thermal and fluid flow analyses using a combination of hand calculations, and FEA software tools such as ANSYS and Fluent.

  • A strong track record in product development, ideally gained in the industrial or electrical equipment sectors.

  • The ability to interpret electrical schematics and use them to develop suitable mechanical designs.

  • Demonstrable experience in a project lead role.

  • Proficiency in the use of PTC Creo, or similar 3D CAD software for the creation of 3D part and assembly models and 2D drawings.

  • Good engineering, communication, and organisational skills.
