Job Description
The Test Operative role will work in the Test facility at the Rotating Machines factory in Rugby where we perform engineering testing (electrical, thermal, mechanical, etc) on multi-MW motors and generators for Low Voltage and Medium Voltage applications across industries including Oil &Gas, Industry, Marine, Naval and Renewables. The role reports to the Head of Test, and required duties range from mechanical fitting activities to setup the rotating machines for test through to full accountability of running tests Safely to a defined process and procedures.
It may be necessary that the Operative will be requested to support other types of activities outside of the Test facility in the other manufacturing and assembly areas of the factory.
Main duties include:
Mechanical fitting - preparing and building machines for test, fitting drives, couplings etc.
Performing a range of inter-process testing (e.g. Insulation Resistance, Electrical Resistance, HV flash, Inter-turn tests, PD, TanDelta etc)
Running test of rotating machines (e.g. o/c, s/c heat runs, ZPF, vibration monitoring, temperature monitoring etc)
Maintaining a clean and tidy work area in line with 5S standards
Adherence to EHS and ensuring a safe working environment
Key skills/abilities:
HNC, HND, or Degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent
Significant experience of working as a test operative in a rotating machines environment
Experience of electrical drives (LV, MV) would be beneficial
Experience of mechanical and electrical fitting
Ability to work to drawings and schematics with complete accuracy, understanding geometric tolerances and key symbols
Ability to work within a team, use own initiative to meet production targets and deadlines
Available to work shifts and flexible to support overtime as required
Ability to work to instructions and quality standards, completing quality documentation
