In this job, you will be in the Major Projects and Engineering department of SCE’s Generation organization that is responsible for executing a portfolio of major construction projects with a total capital expenditure of $100 million annually. You will be leading a team of engineering project managers and construction professionals responsible for managing all technical aspects of major construction projects supporting SCE’s fleet of power generating assets. The Major Projects and Engineering team ensures that projects align with SCE’s overall goals and are developed and implemented to meet scope, schedule, budget, and expenditure deliverables. Projects typically have high visibility with significant financial and operational impacts to the organization.   • Directly supervise Engineering Project Managers and Construction Professionals responsible for all technical aspects of major projects supporting SCE’s Generation assets.

  • Ensure appropriate resources are in place to efficiently lead Major Projects and Engineering work to meet department and company goals and objectives.

  • Provide strategy, direction, coaching and mentoring, performance management, and salary administration for staff.

  • Participate in the development and execution of strategies and operational plans consistent with the direction from leadership.

  • Ensure cross-organizational execution of those strategies through effective planning, communication, and oversight.

  • Successfully influence project sponsors, project management, environmental, and other groups to initiate and complete technical aspects of project work, meeting annual financial budget and technical targets.

  • Resolve cross-organizational issues as needed and take actions to remove obstacles encountered by staff in handling individual projects or programs.

  • Drive safety through standardized processes and procedures aimed at prioritizing safety, quality, and efficiency in the completion of project design and construction activities.

The essentials

  • Five or more years of combined experience managing /supervising an organization/unit or possesses five or more years of engineering project management experience.

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering.

  • Five or more years of engineering experience in the utility industry.

The preferred

  • Master’s or advanced degree in business, engineering, construction management.

  • Experience with construction and project management within a utility industry.

  • Experience providing strategy, direction, coaching and mentoring, performance management, and salary administration for staff.

  • Experience ensuring collaboration including resolving cross functional issues and obstacles.

  • Experience ensuring appropriate resources are in place to successfully manage work and to meet goals and objectives.

You should know

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.

  • Position will require up to 20% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.

  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.

  • Relocation does not apply to this position.
