$18.75/Hour pre-tax), plus $1000 monthly housing allowance (pre-tax) ($250 per week)

Recreation Technician Resource Assistant

Position Details

Stewards Individual Placement Program (Stewards) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health.

Stewards in partnership with The Tonto National Forest, Tonto Basin Ranger Districts Recreation program. The incumbent serves as an assistant on a Ranger District performing work in support of the unit’s recreation program. Responsible for implementing both annual and long-term work plans for developed recreation sites (campgrounds, day use sites, etc.) both developed and dispersed.

Position Responsibilities will include:

· Assist other resource personnel to develop long-range plans for managing recreation.

· Identifies potential problems arising from changing use patterns and new activities and recommends strategies to deal with them.

· Assist in the development of plans for recreation area maintenance, rehabilitation, reconstruction, and construction projects in accordance with program management objectives and policies.

· Monitors the scope of the approved operating plans.

· Inspects recreation areas, areas of concentrated public use, and special use permits.

· Maintains developed sites e.g., roadside and/or backcountry dispersed sites. Makes repairs, removes, or replaces facilities, or closes areas of facilities when hazards cannot be promptly eliminated.

· Contacts are to educate visitors in recreation administration and law enforcement objectives and policies.

Minimum Requirements:

· Ability to work in harsh temperature environments.

· Work with other personnel with or without supervision.

· Team leader and the ability to lead other individuals.

· Flexibility to work in other areas of recreation sites.

· Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by Conservation Legacy (over 21 years old or drivers license for at least three years).

· High School Diploma/GED

· US Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident

· Must be able to obtain a post-secondary degree by end of program (Associate’s or higher)

· Must be 18 Years or older.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Knowledge of budgeting.

· Parks and Recreation experience.

· Professionalism.

· Computer skills, Microsoft word, excel, and pdf.

· Basic building knowledge and water systems.

Benefits:

· $1,000.00/month living allowance. (pre-tax, $250 per week)

· $50/monthly commuting allowance. (pre-tax)

· $4,750.00 Professional Development and Travel fund.

*The USFS Resource Assistant Program (RAP) is a rigorous, immersive, paid internship providing developmental and training opportunities for individuals interested in learning more about Forest Service careers. After completing a minimum of 960 hours of satisfactory work and an associate degree, RA’s may acquire a two-year certificate of noncompetitive hiring eligibility. The certificate enables participants to apply to internal merit announcements for qualifying permanent General Schedule FS positions as well as a Direct Hire Authority for FS Career positions.
