Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:• Current or previous permanent service as an HIM Tech 1, or• Must be reachable on the current civil service list for HIM Tech 1Current certification by the American Health Information Management Association as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).

Duties Description POSITION DESCRIPTION:Position will be required to perform technical activities involving the maintenance, review and use of clinical/medical records in paper and electronic format. This position will ensure records and databases are accurate, complete, and secured; ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, i.e. (HIPAA, Mental Hygiene Laws).#LI-JB3 NY HELPS This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). HELPS Program titles may be filled via a non-competitive appointment. This means that you do not need to take an exam to qualify, but you do need to meet the minimum qualifications of the title.If you are hired under the HELPS Program, you will be first be appointed as a temporary employee. In June 2024, if you are performing successfully in the position, your appointment will be changed from temporary to permanent non-competitive. Once you are in permanent status, your official probationary period will begin and you may take any promotion exam for which you are qualified.At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), employees hired under NY HELPS are expected to have their permanent non-competitive employment status converted to permanent competitive status. You will not have to take an exam to gain permanent competitive status.PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:• Processes records received into the department• Assists in established paper and electronic records maintenance and management processes• Acts as HIM liaison to select teams to provide record management guidance• Provides ongoing record training to teams• Responds to record and information requestsUtilizes several databases, electronic forms management system, and software to perform required tasks and electronic health record system• Generates and distributes system reports as scheduled and as requested• Performs quality improvement functions• Participates on Local or Statewide Committees, as assigned• Occasional travel to other CNYDDSOO or NYS OPWDD locations• Performs general office functions• Performs all other duties as assignedPreferred working knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access and familiarity with ICD 10 and CPT 4 coding concepts
