Carmeuse Americas Lab Technician in ROGERS CITY, Michigan
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for sampling, preparing and testing lime/limestone, raw materials and associated products in a continuous plant manufacturing operation; data entry to SAP of all quality results from laboratory operation including but not limited to generation of certificates, customer reports and quality trend reports. Monitoring and calibrating laboratory equipment and reports of conditions that could lead to product nonconformity, report & correct equipment irregularities. Ensures housekeeping is maintained in the lab and sample preparations areas while following GLP, safety procedures and other duties as assigned by management.
Responsibilities ( main areas of responsibilities of the position)
Ensure safety rules are followed – facilitated through monthly safety talks, toolbox talks, safety inspections and random supervisor audits
Ensures proper personal protective equipment is worn
Ensure regulatory requirements are met with regards to chemical disposal, proper PPE when handling chemicals
Daily product and bin testing and verification of product inventory to meet customer requirements
Fulfill customer requests – additional analysis, samples to be sent out
Process Testing
Coordination of lab testing equipment maintenance and calibration. Calibration and cleaning of laboratory equipment
Key performance indicators
Ensure safe work practices are being followed
Meet customer specifications through various product, process and truck testing
Reduce lab costs by through shift coordination to accommodate customer demands reducing OT needs
Maintain accuracy of lab testing equipment through calibrations
Meet or exceed agreed Goals and Targets on a consistent basis
Participates successfully on teams
Needed Knowledge and Skills (Technical knowledge required by the position)
Knowledge
Experience in mining and/or heavy manufacturing industry
Technical creditability as it relates to industry, with a preference on mining and kilns
Demonstrated knowledge of science to include basic chemistry, physics, combustion and thermodynamics
Possesses strong analytical thinking skills to provide a logical, in-depth analysis of a problem or situation
Skills
Establishes and maintains highly productive working relationships across the organization with all groups within the region and the company; demonstrating respect for conflicting points of view, listens to others, and builds strong working relationships
Demonstrates good technical writing skills for producing SOP, reports, and other appropriate communications

Basic requirements (Education, Level of Experience, Language)
High School Diploma or GED; Associate degree is preferred
1+ years of laboratory experience in an industrial manufacturing environment (preferred)
Computer proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel and ability to learn SAP
Prior experience in, or knowledge of, ISO is preferred
Strong math and organizational skills along with ability to meet deadlines; ability to read and interpret technical procedures
Willing and able to work rotating shifts, overtime and holidays
Prior experience demonstrating effective management skills, knowledge of continuous manufacturing sector
Statistical knowledge in chemistry & physics understanding
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently while also operating in a team environment with friendly, proactive and assertive nature
High level of integrity motivation
Must be punctual and able to meet deadlines
Fluency in oral and written English
Valid driver’s license
Aggregate level I & II certification (to be completed during employment)
S-5 water certification (to be completed during employment)

Daily production of MACs from SAP and extensive SAP laboratory responsibilities
Customer reporting can include daily, weekly and monthly
X-ray analysis
Product characterization of all products
Water readings for MISA
Enter inspection plans, profiles and profile assignments into SAP
Data entry into SAP and Excel
Create customer C of A’s and send to customer per requirements
Air monitoring at specified locations as required
Perform duties to meet the ISO 9001 certified System for Management policies and procedures
Schedule external/internal lab services and order lab consumables.
Research best application methods for lab analysis as well as best equipment to use for the chosen application
Visible emission reading certification
Update customer guidelines
