CITY OF ROCKY FORD Firefighter/Paramedic in Rocky Ford, Colorado

POSITION: Firefighter/Paramedic

DUTIES: Under supervision, responds to fire alarms, hazardous materials, medical, and other emergency calls to protect life and property; drives and operates pumping engines, ladder trucks, and similar fire, ambulance, and rescue vehicles; participates in fire prevention, station maintenance and training activities; performs skilled technical work rendering first aid and emergency medical treatment; structural firefighting and serves as a wild land firefighter

REQUIREMENTS: * Must be 21 years * Ability to meet NFPA 1582 Requirements for firefighter and paramedic * Valid Driver's License National * Registry EMT-Paramedic and/or CDPHE Certified Paramedic * NWCG Basic Wildland Firefighter FFT2 * Trained or certified at level of FF1 * Trained or certified the level of HAZOPS * ICS 100, 200 * NIMS 700, 800 * Can qualify for position at the EMT-I, or NAEMT level as long as attending or will attend paramedic course approved through CDPHE/NREMT and must have completed within 2 years of employment. *

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: * Knowledge of mechanics as related to firefighting. * Ability to work 24/48-hour shifts * Working knowledge of firefighting techniques and emergency medical services.

  • Some knowledge of office practices and procedures, office appliances, filing systems and importance of confidentiality.
  • Ability to learn advanced technical firefighting principles and techniques.
  • Ability to safely deal with hazardous materials.
  • Ability to advance in firefighting certifications.
  • Ability to operate and maintain fire, ambulance, rescue and communications equipment; has a mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to perform heavy physical work; lift/carry 100 pounds; move a person.
  • Ability to ride, climb, reach, grasp, kneel, pick, pinch, stand, walk, sit, bend, crawl, push, pull and perform a variety of similar body
  • Possesses hand/eye/foot coordination adequate to climb ladders, use computers, repair equipment, operate fire, medical equipment, and vehicles.
  • Ability to think clearly, exercise judgment and act quickly in emergencies and under stress; ability to speak clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and simultaneous demands organizing and completing tasks according to their importance.
  • Ability to react logically in emergencies; keep simple records/prepare reports.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to talk and hear in person, by telephone and two-way radio, listen to injured.
  • Ability to see and read instructions, reports, characters on a computer screen, make arson investigations and see pump controls and gauges.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, officials, and the public.

WAGE: $21.00 - $26.50 per hour

SHIFTS: Shifts Vary and may be 24/48 hours

JOB SITE: Rocky Ford, CO
