Weyerhaeuser Seed Plant Technician in Rochester, Washington

Weyerhaeuser’s Western Timberlands has an opening for a Seed Plant Technician with our Western Regeneration business. This full-time salaried position will be based at our Rochester Regeneration Facility in Rochester, WA and pay will be contingent on experience level. We are looking for a person who is dedicated to safety, has a positive attitude, excellent work ethic, and a desire to work in an indoor and outdoor environment in seed processing and operations. The Seed Plant annually processes 1,600 – 2,100 bushels of Douglas fir cones and maintains approximately 38,000 lbs. of seed inventory. We stratify up to 4,100 lbs. of seed for 4 growing facilities, both internal and external reforestation customers. Western Regeneration is comprised of 4 nurseries and 4 seed orchards throughout Washington and Oregon. The Rochester facility sits on 145 acres and consists of 22 acres of greenhouses and outdoor growing space, 90 acres of seed orchard and a seed cleaning facility.

Key Functions:

  • Responsibilities include administration of seed quality testing (ex. Germination), digital seed counter, digital x-ray examinations, digital moisture meter, seed cleaning equipment, database entry and management, seed inventory management, sow order fulfillments and accuracy.
  • Accountable for safety, documentation, and record keeping; use and updating of job safety analysis documents with updates to safety procedures with the site team and completion of required safety training.
  • Monitor seed production processes including seed extraction, seed cleaning, seed testing (x-ray & lab work), seed inventory transactions, stratification processing, pesticide applications, and seed delivery; train and assist team members as needed.
  • Monitor, diagnose and troubleshoot seed equipment issues and ensure preventive maintenance is performed on seed equipment.
  • Help foster environment for learning, continuous improvement, and innovation.

  • Keep the facility team informed of seed and production activity, safety and environmental concerns and hazards, and provide recommendations or feedback on process improvements.

  • 2-year technical degree related to Natural Resources
  • 2 years employment experience in seed operations, forestry, horticulture, agricultural related jobs
  • Strong organizational and observation skills are essential to maintaining seed genetic identities, processing paperwork accurately, and ensuring accurate inventory counts.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills; demonstrate sound judgement and personal initiative.
  • Excellent listening and communication skills; ability to read and follow written instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; must contribute to a positive and productive work environment.
  • Able to work the hours necessary to meet business requirements, which may include arriving early, staying late or occasional weekend work.
  • Willingness/ability to wear required personal protective equipment and perform the essential job functions, including ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 lbs (cone bushels & seed barrels) and operate a forklift.


  • Ability to communicate in Spanish
  • 4-year Degree in Forestry, Horticulture or Agriculture program.
  • Pesticide applicator certification or ability to obtain it in a 6-month period
