Robert Half Systems Engineer in Rochester, New York

Description

We are offering a contract to hire employment opportunity for a Systems Engineer. The position is located in Rochester, New York. As a Systems Engineer, you will share responsibility for managing and administering on-premise and cloud-based infrastructure services, which include but are not limited to virtual infrastructure, operating systems, storage, and security patching.

Responsibilities:

• Manage and administer on-premise and cloud-based infrastructure services.

• Ensure efficient operation of virtual infrastructure, operating systems, and storage.

• Oversee maintenance and security patching processes.

• Prepare for backup and disaster recovery situations.

• Monitor performance and proactively address any issues.

• Design, set up, and maintain a continuous infrastructure integration stack, which includes source control, build servers, automated testing, automated monitoring, and solution deployment.

• Complete proactive performance monitoring, analysis, alerting, reporting, and tuning.

• Conduct capacity analyses and provision solutions.

• Complete maintenance activities including deploying patches and ensuring that firmware and software are up to date.

• Resolve incidents and complete follow-up tasks to ensure platform stability.

• Evaluate new products and services that will enhance the delivery of infrastructure services.

• Utilize skills in Database, Active Directory, and Configuration Management.

Requirements • Applicant must possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. Advanced degrees are highly valued.

• Demonstrated expertise in database management is essential.

• Proven experience with Active Directory is required.

• Familiarity with Configuration Management systems is mandatory.

• Candidates should have a solid understanding of systems engineering concepts, principles, and theories.

• Experience in the education sector, particularly within a university setting, is an asset.

• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex system issues.

• Strong interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with other teams and stakeholders.

• Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary.

• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the specified location.
