Salary Range: $154.63 Per Day

Assumes all duties of the Classroom Teacher in accordance with school rules, policies and procedures.

Manages classroom and provides instructions according to plans as prepared by the Classroom Teacher or when necessary, will develop and implement appropriate programming to meet the students’ needs.

Creates and maintains a positive and safe environment consisting of the health, medical and safety concerns of the students.

Maintains classroom environment which promotes active learning.

Works directly with students to help reinforce learning objectives.

Records & reports necessary behavioral data on students.

Provides documentation regarding student instructional concerns and progress to the Classroom Teacher as appropriate.

Documents medical needs as per student plans and informs appropriate personnel including nurses.

While assigned to a given classroom, supervises Teacher Aides, volunteers and other non-professional personnel who may participate in the classroom.

Carries out all educational and therapeutic programs including lifting, moving and positioning of students.

Ensures that the Principal or designee and the assigned Social Worker are notified of any issues/concerns relative to students or their families.

Documents performance of staff and shares with Classroom Teacher. In urgent situations, shares this information with Principal or Vice Principal in a timely fashion.

Participates in various teacher related meetings and in-service sessions deemed necessary by the Principal or Superintendent.

In the event there are no teacher absences, will complete duties as assigned by Principal or designee.

Adheres to all Mary Cariola Children Center policies and procedures.

Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides immediate supervision of 4-5 employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include directing work; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A. or B. S.) from a four-year college or university required. Current certification as a Special Education Teacher in New York State.
