Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides on-campus staffing of the department on a daily basis (8am – 5pm) with consistent and dependable coverage to include coordinating meetings, greeting students and faculty during normal working hours.

  • Provides information and administrative support to potential, incoming, and current graduate students, including orientation, end of year events and reporting, course offerings, and program and institute policies.Provides assistance and information regarding graduate and program requirements, scheduling, certifications, and course registration and matriculation procedures.

  • Provides direct administration support to the Department Head and faculty. Performs data collection on admissions, enrollments, etc. Assists with ongoing accreditation elements and annual reporting for the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB).Order supplies for office and architecture studio.

  • Point of contact for all paperwork related to graduate student records. Performs graduate student academic degree audits of students enrolled in the M. Arch Track. Performs periodic duties associated with the online M.Arch track.

  • Reconciles department procurement card, including preparing internal purchase orders and obtaining receipts related to the M. Arch activities and operation

  • Scheduling Officer for GIS Academic Graduate Programs: Sustainability MS and PhD, and M Arch.

  • Maintains proficiency in use of specialized administrative accounting, timekeeping and event management systems.

  • Maintains, updates and manages multiple electronic databases and distribution lists.

  • Prepares purchase requisitions as needed.

Required Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience.

  • Two (2) or more years experience

Department/College Description:

The Department of Architecture is in the Golisano Institute for Sustainability (GIS) and aligned with the College of Art & Design (CAD). The Master of Architecture offers two separate degree pathways – the “Standard” pathway – a 3+ year offering for those with undergraduate degrees unrelated to architecture, and the “Advanced Standing” pathway – a 2+ year offering for those with undergraduate degrees related to architecture. The Master of Architecture is a NAAB accredited degree that provides a uniquely dynamic, evolving, and integrated curriculum. The mission of the RIT Department of Architecture is to provide professional education programs for aspiring architects that are based on sustainable design with particular emphasis on context and the integration with technology.

The Golisano Institute for Sustainability (GIS) at Rochester Institute of Technology is a leading research center in the burgeoning field of sustainability, conducting over $13 million of externally sponsored research per year. In addition to the Master of Architecture, an M.S. in Sustainable Systems, and Ph.D. in Sustainability are also offered. The LEED platinum-certified Sustainability Institute Hall, a $38 million, 84,000 ft2 facility dedicated to the GIS academic program serves as a center for sustainability research, technology transfer, education, and outreach; and provides a state-of-the-art “living, learning, laboratory” for sustainable design and green construction. It incorporates an advanced building skin, a unique “transparent infrastructure,” a “smart” microgrid, and a computing data center that demonstrate the use of sustainable building technologies and energy systems. The facility is serviced using a variety of sustainable technologies, including a 400 kW phosphoric acid fuel cell, 40 kW photovoltaic array, geothermal wells, and a green roof to enable rainwater harvesting.

Job Summary:

The Senior Staff Assistant provides high-level administrative support for the department’s on-campus graduate program (Masters in Architecture) track and scheduling officer for architecture and sustainability programs. This position reports directly to the Head of the Department of Architecture of the Golisano Institute for Sustainability (GIS). The position will work closely with the faculty and students.
