Compensation Range:

$23.06 - $32.29

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

This position provides research support to public health surveillance projects and clinical trials in the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases. The employee will be responsible for processing human subject-derived biospecimens and performing complex molecular pathogen detection assays under the guidance of laboratory management, with ability to troubleshoot assays and evaluate results. Position involves coordinating and collaborating with lab staff and research coordinators for tracking and timely processing of biospecimens as well as packing and shipping specimens to collaborators. Operating and maintaining specialized scientific equipment, ordering laboratory supplies and reagents, and adhering to established protocols and procedures is expected (including ordering of laboratory supplies and reagents in compliance with all University and Departmental standards and procedures).

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specimen Processing

  • Prepare workstation for efficient workflow and stock with necessary supplies.

  • Label, aliquot, and freeze specimens per study protocols for testing and storage.

  • Enter specimens into all appropriate databases.

  • Interact with enrollment team to rectify discrepancies.

  • Clean and disinfect workstation.

Specimen Testing

  • Populate log sheets.

  • Perform nucleic acid extractions.

  • Generate experiment worksheets.

  • Run real-time RT-PCR experiments.

  • Troubleshoot assay problems and plan experiments accordingly.

Lab Maintenance

  • Ordering and restocking supplies.

  • Attending lab meetings and conference calls.

  • Maintaining certifications and trainings.

  • Clean and organize lab.

Data Management

  • Enter results into various databases according to study protocols.

  • Respond to data queries from study sponsors.

Specimen Shipping

  • Identify samples to send.

  • Create necessary shipping logs, and pack and ship specimens in accordance with IATA regulations.

Trainings

  • Stay up to date on all assigned trainings, including GCP, HSPP, UR annual, hazardous goods shipping, and other study-specific modules.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent and 7 years of relevant experience required;

  • Associates degree in life sciences or another STEM field preferred;

  • OSHA safety requirements; scientific methods required.
