University of Rochester Research Specialist II in Rochester, New York

Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The Tech Associate II position in the Center for Musculoskeletal Research’s Histology, Biochemistry and Molecular Imaging (HBMI) Core performs experiments related to histological characterization of small and large animal musculoskeletal tissues as well as human tissues (bone, cartilage, tendon/ligament, and joints). These include paraffin and frozen sectioning, as well as custom procedures including tissue preparation and sectioning for spatial transcriptomic and proteomic profiling to address critical questions in clinical and basic orthopaedic science.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements operating procedures and computer programs for the laboratory and independently operates complex scientific equipment. Develops and modifies test methods; selects procedures for data collection and data handling.

  • Carefully records and analyzes experimental data and interpret results within the scope of the project. Prepares written reports, contributes to the design and interpretation of research results, and assists with the final writing of research publications to meet the expectations of co- authorship of scientific publications. Produces publication quality figures.

  • In coordination with principal investigators and laboratory personnel, designs research projects or subprojects, assists with grant proposal writing, drafts related regulatory protocols following specified formats, etc. Applies advanced scientific knowledge and expertise for the purpose of guiding and advising internal colleagues on scientific technical problems within the scope of research and making recommendations for corrections, especially as they relate to grant submissions, progress reports, or scientific manuscripts.

  • Acts as point person responsible for the slidescanner, visiopharm software, and microscopy equipment, responsible for maintenance and training new users on the systems. Manages the scheduling of slide scanners, visiopharm software and all equipment under the Histology, Biochemistry and Molecular Imaging (HBMI) core and and conducts training for all users of the IVIS spectrum. Keeps usage logs and generating invoices for internal billing of the cost center (HBMI).

  • Trains laboratory personnel and rotating graduate students and undergraduates on laboratory and departmental-shared equipment and laboratory procedures. Counsels laboratory personnel on technical issues, problem solving, or as issues arise.

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with major course work in the field of assignment, and 2 years related experience in field of assignment. Or equivalent combination of experience, training and education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Practical experience in cellular and molecular biology in the context of pre-clinical models. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $55,955 - $78,336 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
