University of Rochester Research Specialist II in Rochester, New York

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Genomics Research Center (GRC) at the University of Rochester is seeking a highly motivated and organized candidate to provide comprehensive technical support of high-throughput sequence data generation. Our interactive team is focused on fast turn-around of high-quality results using state-of-the-art genomic methods and proper handling of large quantities of sequencing data. Our team routinely researches, creates, and refines in-house methods to achieve throughput goals while maintaining the quality and scientific integrity of deliverables for every sequencing project. This position would mainly focus on daily operations including: molecular biology, DNA and RNA isolation from human samples, DNA and RNA analysis, PCR, high-throughput sample processing and DNA sequencing. Ideal candidates should be capable of multi-tasking and effective communication.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Laboratory Activities:

  • High-throughput sequencing library construction for transcriptomics

  • applications, including mRNA-Seq, total RNA-seq, and low input RNA-Seq and QC.

Laboratory Activities:

  • Array based assays for epigenomics and GWAS

Laboratory Activities:

  • Spatial omics service line development and assay execution, including NanoString GeoMX, 10X Visium and Xenium

Laboratory activities:

  • Assists to maintain lab supply inventories, performs laboratory instrument maintenance, keeps records for hazardous waste and chemicals, and follows general laboratory health and safety regulations. Participates in lab meetings and GRC-sponsored seminars.

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including cold storage and restocking of lab supplies.

  • Keeps abreast of trends in field of interest by reading professional journals; and attend/participate in weekly lab meetings, and, as appropriate, institutes and seminars.

  • Attend lab meetings, meeting with supervisors, attending educational seminars

Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree required

  • Master’s Degree preferred

  • 2 years of relevant experience involving direct assistance to researchers or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • 4 or more years’ experience in biomedical science and genomics strongly preferred.

  • Experience with tissue culture, primary culture, and/or animal handling preferred.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment as needed required.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $55,955 - $78,336 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
