Robert Half Payroll Specialist in Rochester, New York

Description

We are seeking a professional with a strong understanding of payroll management to join our clients team on a contract basis as a Payroll Specialist. The ideal candidate will be able to manage all aspects of payroll operations, ensuring that all employees are paid accurately and on time.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the preparation, distribution, and reporting processes for payroll.

  • Oversee and ensure all payroll transactions are processed efficiently.

  • Collect, calculate, and enter data in order to maintain and update payroll information.

  • Compile summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and non-taxable wages and report on this.

  • Determine payroll liabilities by calculating employee federal and state income and social security taxes and employer's social security, unemployment and workers compensation payments.

  • Resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.

  • Maintain payroll operations by following policies and procedures.

  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

  • Prepare and execute pay orders through an electronic system or distribute paychecks.

  • Administer statements of payment to personnel either electronically or on paper.

  • Process taxes and payment of employee benefits.

  • Keep track of hour rates, wage rate changes, new employee information, etc.

  • Adhere to payroll policies and procedures and comply with relevant law.

  • Identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies in timesheet and payroll records.

  • Stay current with the latest technologies and techniques in payroll processing.

  • Work with human resources personnel for payroll and benefit-related matters.

    Requirements

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Payroll Specialist or similar role.

  • In-depth understanding of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.

  • Strong knowledge of local, state and federal regulations and requirements related to payroll.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and payroll software programs.

  • Strong numerical skills with the ability to spot numerical errors.

  • Good time management and organizational skills.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Sense of confidentiality and high level of integrity.

  • Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, or related field is preferred.
