POSITION SUMMARY
The Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) of the University of Rochester is a unique national resource for research and education in science and technology. LLE was established in 1970 as a center for the investigation of the interaction of intense radiation with matter.
The Facility Operations Division is seeking a Section Leader to oversee the Omega Experimental Operations team and diagnostic operations. A successful candidate will be challenged by a wide range of technologies used to conduct experiments and leadership of a highly active work force. The experimental operations section is responsible for vacuum systems, mechanical assembly of diagnostics, and operation of custom process software to execute scientific campaigns.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support the operation of equipment and instrumentation for the OMEGA Experimental Operations section
Oversee and work closely with a team of technicians. Management of personnel scheduling and weekly campaign execution tasks. Optimize scheduling of tasks
Represent Experimental Operations at campaign planning meetings
Coordinate project and task activities in the Experimental Operations areas. Provide input to all system upgrade projects during design phases
Coordinate preventive maintenance. Manage spare part inventory
Review and Revision of processes and procedures
Stand watch at least once a week as Experimental Operations Operation and/or Experimental Operations Technician. Shift flexibility is required (Morning and Evening shifts)
Facilitate expert equipment troubleshooting
QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics field and 4+ years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
ESESSENTIAL SKILLS :
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn additional software operation
Ability to work in a cleanroom environment
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Excellent verbal and written communication
Strong interpersonal skills working in a team-based environment
Strong experience working with mechanical assembly and troubleshooting
Experience with optical, electrical, controls, and vacuum systems
PREFERRED SKILLS
Proficiency reading and interpreting mechanical and electrical schematics
Technical writing experience
Previous supervisory experience

Pay Range
Pay Range: $75,650 - $113,464 Annually
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
