Mental Health Therapist

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Mental Health Therapist is responsible for providing evidence-informed, trauma specific treatment to children who have experienced trauma. The Mental Health Therapist assesses and tracks the effectiveness of the treatment provided through the use of standardized measures pre and post treatment. The Mental Health Therapist reports to the Mental Health Program Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Receive and successfully complete training and ongoing consultation in evidence-informed, trauma specific treatment. Provide evidence-informed, trauma specific treatment to children who have experienced sexual and/or physical abuse or witnessed a violent crime. Implement standardized assessment measures pre and post treatment to evaluate trauma symptoms and track the effectiveness of the treatment provided. Engage non-offending family members in the child's treatment, as warranted. Work alongside Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) members to identify and eliminate barriers to following through with treatment. Provide support to the child as they go through the criminal court process, if applicable. Assist the MDT in assessing children's risk for suicidal ideation and safety planning. Adhere to mandated reporter guidelines, as applicable. Enter case notes in Collaborate, RedCap and other databases as needed in a timely manner. Gather data for monthly/quarterly grant reporting, ensuring reports are submitted in a timely manner. Receive ongoing training to ensure compliance with the NCA standards and best practices in the field of child abuse. Assist with the development of resource materials, mental health manuals and assist with special projects etc. Regularly attend Case Review, Team, and Staff meetings. Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate proficiency in meeting competencies required for position; able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Master's Degree in Social Work or Psychology field, plus three years' experience practicing with children who have experienced trauma required. NYS Certification as a Licensed Master of Social Work, Licensed Clinical Social Worker or comparable credential required.
