The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

Performs a diversity of technical assignments which are broadly outlined, require some theoretical insight and occasionally require the interpretation of results. Exercises complex skill and judgment, and knowledge of the principles and methods of a technical field.Schedule EXACT HOURS TBD, M-F WITH ROTATION ON WEEKENDS/HOLIDAYS Responsibilities POSITION SUMMARY: This Technician is responsible for the timely and accurate analysis of patient samples, utilizing moderately complex methods. Responsibilities include specimen identification and accessioning in the Laboratory Information System, gram stains, direct viral testing, direct molecular methods, positive blood culture notification and work-up, may read bacterial culture plates. Candidates must be detail oriented, able to work as part of a highly functioning team and possess strong organizational skills. She/he is also responsible for routine maintenance of lab instruments/equipment, routine quality control and adherence to all lab policies. TYPICAL DUTIES: Set up and processing of samples for Microbiology testing. Testing of patient samples using gram stain, rapid EIA, and PCR technologies, basic instrumentation, may read bacterial culture plates. Sorting and organizing patient samples for testing and storage, reporting results of testing via LIS/ instrument interface, as well as manual data entry; communicating results to patient care providers and answering telephone inquiries; maintaining laboratory stock of kits/ reagents; performing daily/weekly/monthly preventative maintenance on lab equipment; participating in proficiency testing. FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS: - Ability to multi task with strong organizational skills. - Ability to interact effectively and professionally with co-workers and customers. - Models standards of behavior creating an atmosphere of teamwork and respect. - Strict adherence to quality control and quality assurance protocols. - Adheres to all departmental and organizational policies and procedures. EDUCATION: AAS degree in Laboratory Science. Must be eligible for NYS licensure in Clinical Laboratory Technician.
