University of Rochester Hospital Medicine Procedural Team - Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant in Rochester, New York

Responsibilities

The APP for this service will be responsible for independently performing bedside procedures and ensuring specimen delivery to the lab when appropriate. Current procedures include lumbar puncture, thoracentesis, paracentesis, central line placement, and peripheral vascular access. Ultrasound skills will be taught and utilized for all procedures. The APP will understand the indications and contraindications to each procedure. The APP will coordinate with referring in-house services for scheduling and performing these procedures under supervision of procedural hospitalist attending. The APP will be responsible for performing post-procedure follow-up as needed, and monitor for complications during the post-procedure period.¿The APP will collaborate with other members of the procedure team to ensure daily office administrative work is completed in a timely manner (scheduling, responding to emails, stocking supplies, chart reviews for quality assurance, etc.).

Prior procedural experience is preferred but not required. Candidate must be motivated to learn and become experts in the procedures. The APP will be trained in each of the bedside procedures and be integrated as a member of the hospitalist procedure team. Once proficiency in procedures is achieved, part of the role as a team member will be to participate in the education of learners (rotating resident physicians, students, and new employees), using clinical learning experiences, knowledge sharing, and skill training.

Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner

Requires a Master's Degree in Nursing or related field and an active New York State license in good standing. Applicants will have 5 years experience as an RN with one to three years of leadership experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. The Nurse Practitioner influences the quality and delivery of care in various roles including consultant, researcher, mentor, and practitioner. This role may be unit, program, or service based and is involved in continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Physician Assistant

Completion of an AMA approved Physician Assistant program, licensure in good standing, and certified as a Registered Physician Assistant. Demonstrated clinical competence, superior verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal effectiveness and customer relation skills, computer competence and must have an active desire to learn. This role may be unit, program, or service based and is involved in continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $44.71-67.07

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum annual salary for this faculty position. Individual salaries will be determined within the job’s salary range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations. Incentive-based compensation may also be applicable and will be discussed during the hiring process.
