General Description
This is senior level attorney position in the Police Accountability Board responsible for overseeing the Investigations Division and the staff assigned to it. General supervision is provided by the Executive Director of the Police Accountability Board. Related work is performed as required.
CITY RESIDENCY WILL BE REQUIRED WITHIN ONE YEAR OF HIRE.
Typical Work Activities
Directs the activities of and oversees mid-level staff in the Police Accountability Board’s Investigations Division responsible for conducting investigations into allegations of Officer wrongdoings;
Oversees and conducts investigations into instances of potential officer wrongdoing by responding to scenes of critical incidents; collecting documents, videos, and photographs; interviewing witnesses and officers; and analyzing evidence;
Reviews all legal documents produced by attorneys in the Investigations Division;
Conducts high level legal research and renders legal opinions in the Police Accountability Board’s Executive Office, Investigations Division, or Oversight & Policy Division;
Enforces the Board’s policies by drafting evidentiary reports to be presented to the Police Accountability Board;
Presents facts and law to Board panels at evidentiary hearings;
Performs legal work necessary to bring accountability and transparency to the powers exercised by sworn officers of the Rochester Police Department.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from a law school of recognized standing AND four (4) years of experience as a lead attorney admitted to practice in New York State, one (1) year of which included the direct supervision of other attorneys.
