Together, we work towards equipping each student with the tools they need to become lifelong learners and valuable contributors to both their local community and the global society.FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION OF UNIT Primary Purpose: The Associate Director of District will assist with the organization and management of all CSE processes, including the processing of referrals, scheduling of district held meetings, annual reviews, and any other activities related to CSE or the Subcommittees ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in supporting, monitoring and reporting service provisions to assure that students with disabilities are provided programs and services that are in compliance with all local, state and federal laws and regulations.

  • Assists in maintaining all compliance data related to students with disabilities.

  • In collaboration with all members of the Department of Special Education, assist in coordinating professional development for TOSAs, building administration, and building-level intervention teams

  • Assists with the training of CSE Chairs and Subcommittee Chairs. Assists in the development and provision of professional development activities.

  • Participates in ongoing professional development designed to support the quality and compliance initiatives of the Department of Special Education.

  • Facilitates CSE recommendations for out-of-district placements and the reintegration of students who are returning from CSE recommended placements.

  • Responds to parent questions and concerns.

  • Use data to monitor initial referrals, referrals for more restrictive environments, removals and suspensions, provision of IEP services and programs, instructional outcomes, attendance trends by various sub-groupings (i.e., race/ethnicity; program; classification) of all schools within the zone, and provide support and guidance to the chiefs of schools and principals of schools at risk of not meeting special education-related performance targets.

  • Monitor the assignment of all one-to-one paraprofessionals, taking into consideration available resources in the proposed program, classroom, and building to which the student is assigned.

  • Chair CSE meetings.

  • Performs related duties as assigned by a supervisor.

    AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Use of data to advise and assist in the implementation of effective instructional and program models and compliance indicators in schools.

  • Collaboration with all members of the Department of Special Education, Chiefs of Schools, Principals, and Academic Intervention Services to ensure seamless services for students with disabilities and students at risk of being identified as a student with a disability.

  • Assisting in the implementation of effective training for CSEs and sub-CSEs, as measured by key performance indicators.

  • Assisting in ensuring high-quality IEPs, and compliance with district and state guidelines and regulations within the zone.

  • Assisting School Directors with all areas of instruction and compliance-related needs within the zone.

  • Assisting building administration with behavior intervention and discipline of students with disabilities and students at risk of being identified as a student with a disability.

    EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION:

  • Prior Experience as a Special Education Administrator or Assistant Principal preferred

  • Special Education, Psychology, Social Work or Speech and Hearing Certification preferred

  • New York State Certification for School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL) required

  • Demonstrated expertise in major areas of special education including instruction and programs, compliance, CSE-related activities, parent communication and engagement, and professional development.

  • Demonstrated expertise in oral and written communication and strong interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively with all levels of management throughout the district.
