Job Responsibilities:

  • Communicate the values of a RIT education through presentations, booth activities, open houses, and other recruitment efforts on behalf of RIT/NTID to prospective deaf and hard of hearing students, parents, secondary school counselors, vocational rehabilitation counselors, and other education professionals or organizations involved in the college recruitment and selection process.

  • Review application materials to facilitate admission decisions.

  • Identify regional travel plans and strategies for the travel coordinator to schedule recruitment visits.

  • Make travel arrangements and travel within allocated budget and university travel policy and procedures.

  • Maintain collaborative efforts towards working knowledge of resources within the region to communicate current and relevant information related to the application process (i.e., vocational rehabilitation, financial aid programs, admissions professional organizations).

  • Work with RIT/NTID pre-college outreach programs to create a pipeline of students.Perform additional responsibilities as assigned and commensurate with experience.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required- preferably in social sciences, business, communication and/or marketing.

  • American Sign Language fluency is required. Excellent interpersonal, presentation skills and communication skills, written and sign language skills to communicate across communication modes.

  • Must be highly flexible and able to work in an environment that emphasizes customer service relations and measurable work outcomes.

  • Maintain confidentiality and clear boundaries, including minors.

Department/College Description:

RIT/NTID Office of Admissions is part of the Enrollment Management Division and works with deaf/hard of hearing prospective students as well as students interested in the American Sign Language and English Interpretation, Deaf Education (MS) and Health Care Interpretation (MS) program.

Job Summary:

Please note: This position requirees extensive business travel-roughly fifty days during the peak fall travel season and throughout the year.

The Admissions Counselor works within a geographic region toward the successful recruitment of prospective deaf and hard of hearing students to RIT: carry out student recruitment travel, present to students and stakeholders about RIT/NTID, review applications to facilitate admission decision to RIT and work with students and stakeholders toward enrolled student status.
