Responsibilities

Are you interested in working as part of a collaborative team to understand the hidden complexities of protein-drug interactions and mechanisms of cancer treatments using a combination of structural biology techniques and biochemical, cellular, and pre-clinical models? This role is ideal for someone with a passion for learning new techniques and developing new tools to advance our scientific knowledge in key areas of the cellular response to chemotherapeutics.

The lab of Dr. Matthew Schellenberg in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology seeks to fill a position for a Post-Doctoral Fellow that will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that aims to develop new and improved treatments for cancer patients. The candidate will support the structural biology and biochemistry component of a collaborative team consisting of Dr. Matthew Goetz’s medical oncology group and Dr. John Hawse’s cell biology group. Applications are strongly encouraged from individuals who may not meet all requirements, but who have experience or an interest in learning protein structure determination using X-ray crystallography and cryo-EM and defining molecular mechanisms using biochemical and/or cell-based assays. The successful candidate will work as part of a supportive team which prioritizes open science team member development and utilizes the power of collaboration and team science to generate scientific discoveries that lead to improved human health outcomes in the rich scientific environment at the Mayo Clinic. Opportunities to develop skillsets in additional areas of expertise including cell biology, microscopy, and drug design, as well as to attend and present at scientific meetings will be provided as part of the career development component of this position.

A Research Fellow position in Life Sciences (LS) will require knowledge of either clinical-based research or laboratory-based research often obtained from a postdoctoral program.
