Responsibilities

Position can be filled by a Histotechnologist or Histology Technician

• Histology Technician: The peripheral nerve lab performs a variety of technical procedures that result in the creation of microscopic slide preparations. These technical procedures may include: accessioning specimens; specimen processing and microtomy techniques; paraffin, frozen, and plastic. Technical staining procedures include: routine Hematoxylin and Eosin, special stains, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemical staining, and in situ hybridization. The PN lab also does nerve fiber counts in skin specimens and teased nerve fiber preparations. Assists with training of students and new employees.

• Histotechnologist: Prepares specimens and performs testing procedures on pathology specimens that result in the creation of microscopic slide preparations for diagnostic and/or prognostic analysis by the pathologist. Applies technical theory to provide overall operational support necessary to maintain and optimize testing activities. Able to accommodate scheduling adjustments, off shifts, holidays, on-call, and weekend work assignments. Assists with training of students and employees.

Qualifications

Histology Technician (HT):

Associates Degree required

Coursework including 24 semester hours of the following: At least 12 credit hours in chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology AND 6 credit hours in chemistry AND 6 credit hours in biology.

Histology Technician (HT) certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP)

Histotechnologist (HTL):

Bachelor's Degree required

Histotechnologist (HTL) certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP)

License & Certifications:

Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP). Board of Certification required at start date. Employees obtaining certification(s) after January 1, 2004 will be required to demonstrate evidence of ongoing maintenance of certification.

Histotechnologist - Compensation range is $31.01 -$45.55 / hour

Histology Technician - Compensation range is $25.37 -$37.61 / hour

Schedule Details

This position is a Monday - Friday days position. The start time is approximately 7:30 A.M. There is some ability to modify start time a little.

Weekend Schedule

While there may be some weekends needed, it is work load dependent and at minimum there would be a 1 in 6 week rotation.
