Responsibilities

The Director of Maintenance is responsible for planning and ensuring that all aviation maintenance is conducted in a safe and cost-effective manner, in compliance with all applicable federal aviation regulations (FARs). The Director of Maintenance is the point of contact with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for all aviation maintenance-related activities. The Director of Maintenance is expected to follow the Mayo Clinic Culture of Safety by modeling 5 safety behaviors: pay attention to detail, communicate clearly, have a questioning and receptive attitude, hand-off effectively, and support each other. The ultimate goal is to place the needs of our patients first by ensuring aviation safety.

Qualifications

Candidate must meet the requirements of Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Title 14, Section 119.71(e), titled “Management personnel: Qualifications for operations conducted under part 135 of this chapter.”

Minimum Education and/or Experience

Mechanic certificate with airframe and powerplant ratings.

And either:

3 years' experience, within the last 6 years, maintaining aircraft as a certificated mechanic, including experience in maintaining the same category and class of aircraft used by Mayo Clinic (BK117-D3/D2, BK117-C2, King Air)

Or

3 years’ experience within the past 6 years repairing aircraft in a certificated airframe repair station, including 1 year in the capacity of approving aircraft for return to service.

Preferred Experience and/or Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Management, Business Management or related field preferred.

3 years’ supervisory experience preferred.

Previous experience in a helicopter EMS operation preferred.

Previous experience in an air ambulance operation preferred.

Previous experience as a Director of Maintenance preferred.

If driving a Mayo Clinic vehicle, must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record in accordance with Mayo Clinic Policy.
