Job Title: R&D Lab Technician

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated R&D Lab Technician to join our innovative team at our research facility. As part of a small, family-owned company experiencing significant growth, this position offers the opportunity to be creative and take ownership of various projects within our expanding range of R&D initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare lab scale paint formulations and evaluate their properties.

  • Perform quality control testing of paint formulations including viscosity, color, temperature, pH, sag, flow, curing time, and appearance.

  • Perform and maintain calibration, certification, maintenance, upkeep, and cleanliness of lab equipment and facility.

  • Understand basic color theory and experience with color spectrophotometer, creating custom color formulas, and color matching.

  • Prepare standards and solutions needed to maintain calibration of instruments.

  • Assist with writing or revising work instructions.

  • Optimize existing procedures.

  • Manage archival of Quality Documents.

  • Ensure safe working practices in industrial and all environments.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.

  • 1+ year of experience in industry, preferably with coatings, paints, or epoxy.

  • Experience with formulation or color matching.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with epoxy, sealants, or adhesives.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

  • Experience with R&D, quality control, and various paint-related materials such as epoxy, sealants, and coatings.

  • Familiarity with wet chemistry and color matching.

Work Environment

This role is based in an R&D lab environment within a very clean and newer building. There is no manufacturing at this site, resulting in a quieter workplace. The working hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
