Columbia Brands USA LLC Senior Industrial Engineer in Robards, Kentucky
POSITION SUMMARY
We are looking for an Industrial Engineer (on-site) at our Distribution Center, located in Robards, Kentucky. Reporting to the Senior Manager - DC Engineering (located at our Distribution Centre in Portland, Oregon), you will provide professional industrial engineering services and expertise to Columbia Sportswear's global distribution network.
Provide professional industrial engineering services to Columbia Sportswear's distribution operations by developing and maintaining production standards; conducting cost comparison studies and feasibility studies; and developing plant layouts, plant scheduling, and production routing procedures. Develop plant systems and methods, recommends equipment to assure the most economical packaging of products, storage and retrieval of material, and automated material handling equipment. Contribute to positive morale by developing and maintaining fair and equitable standards structure. Develop and manage cross-functional and interdepartmental projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Use engineering expertise to review and analyze current automated material handling equipment and recommend changes and improvements that increase productivity and contribute to cost efficiency.
Use project management skills in key, high level assignments involving design and development of new plant facilities, plant layout, production operations, and implementation of material handling systems.
Conduct time studies using standard data, MOST, and other acceptable methods to establish operational and production standards. Results are applied to both direct and indirect job functions and used to design, develop, and implement incentive programs which reward employee effort and contribute to plant efficiency.
Conduct studies and analyze various production operations; develop the most efficient material handling methods from the standpoint of equipment, crew size, machine capacities, tooling, setups, etc., on new products or new or changed methods necessitated by new equipment, engineering changes, or special requirements.
Assist in the recommendation/selection/management of vendors and procurement of production equipment.
Supervise contract consultants and technical service providers engaged in process and production improvement projects.
Review and analyze operations to determine best flow of information and materials within and between departments.
Use computer knowledge and expertise to develop, implement and maintain computer systems that contribute to the overall effective information management for the distribution center.
Monitor and provide support for teamwork process at the facility. Includes developing and maintaining team standards, recording performance and quality statistics, assisting teams in problem solving and decision making, promoting development of methods within teams and coaching development and assisting the development of gainshare points and review of rates.
Assist with development of budgets for all areas of responsibility including cost justifications for capital projects and equipment.
Maintain positive open lines of communication with Engineering Manager and all Columbia Sportswear management, staff and cross functional partners in order to contribute to the smooth flow of information and efficient operation of the organization.
Ability to cope with a stressful work environment and cordially interact with coworkers to accomplish common tasks.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelors or Master's degree in Industrial Engineering with Mechanical/Electrical working knowledge.
A minimum of five to ten years' experience working at an advanced level as an industrial engineer in a distribution center environment. Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing work measurement standards, and successful project management experience.
Ability to read and analyze mechanical drawings and design various equipment and construction technical drawings.
Conduct business operations in a collaborative nature, managing interpersonal interaction to develop and cultivate personal and professional relationships within the company, and effectively deal with work and time pressure in the efficient and effective accomplishment of job goals and objectives.
Preferred skills: WMS experience, Manhattan preferred; LMS experience; AutoCad LT; Lean/Six Sigma Experience, Yellow Belt preferred; Data Mining Experience, SQL preferred; Power BI Dashboard Experience.
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY
Incumbent assists with supervision/mentoring of industrial engineering staff and has impact on processes and procedures throughout the distribution center management matrix, frequently serves as project manager on various cross functional and interdepartmental process improvement projects.
JOB SCOPE
Work is frequently varied, with new and unique situations occurring, involving a high degree of complexity.
Duties are performed under minimal supervision and, and work is only checked or verified on a project basis, before implementation.
Job requires partial accountability for long-range operational and strategic planning. Errors in developing policies and procedures can have significant impact on organizational performance.
JOB CONDITIONS
Job requires hours that may occasionally exceed 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week during times of peak activity. Evening meetings and/or weekend work occasionally required to collaborate with people in other time zones and to ensure timely project completion. Some travel required to support global distribution facilities. Job pressure exists in the balancing of several projects with conflicting and sometimes changing deadlines. The ability to sit for extended periods and to bend, kneel, and stoop. Ability to operate telephones and computer hardware and software, including keyboard and 10-key. Physical capability to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds. Exposure to a computer screen.
