We seek applicants who are dedicated to servingThe University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’sstudent body as a Part Time Lecturer of Political Sciencebeginning in Spring 2025.

This position will be assigned to teach undergraduate core curriculum courses at UTRGV or at UTRGV Collegiate High School in Brownsville, St. Joseph Academy, Harlingen, and/or another UTRGV campus. The UTRGV Brownsville, St. Joseph Academy, and Harlingen Collegiate High Schools provide academically talented students in grades 11 and 12 the opportunity to earn dual credit while beginning academic study that will lead towards the completion of a baccalaureate degree. All courses follow the same curriculum and assessment guidelines as other UTRGV courses taught in this discipline. All academic and institutional policies governing instruction, assessment, grading, confidentiality, mandated reporting, and departmental participation apply to courses taught as part of this program. The UTRGV Brownsville College High School is located at 343 Ringgold Rd, Brownsville, TX 78520; St. Joseph Academy is located at 101 Saint Joseph Drive, Brownsville, TX 78520 and Harlingen Collegiate High is located at 2901 Medical Drive, Harlingen, TX 78550; thus, the ideal candidate must be able to travel to any or all of these locations as well to deliver instruction.

Faculty hired to teach collegiate high school courses may be required to participate in supplemental training focused on working with high school-aged college students. Trainings may include but are not limited to: Effective teaching methods for working with high school-aged college students; maintaining student engagement with coursework; and, safety protocols and best practices for working with high school-aged college students.

Minimum Qualifications

The qualifications to be considered as a Part-Time Lecturer is a master’s degree in Political Science or a related field of study from an accredited institution with 18 hours or more of graduate level course work in Political Science.

Preferred Qualification

Teaching experience is desirable, as well as the ability to use technology to support teaching and learning. ABDs or Ph.D. in Political Science or closely related field of study from an accredited institution.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program ( ORP ) instead of TRS , subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in

length

Texas law requires faculty members whose primary language is not English to demonstrate proficiency in English as determined by a satisfactory paper-based test score of 500 (computer-based of 173 or internet-based of 61) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language ( TOEFL ) or a satisfactory test score of 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System ( IELTS ).
