Department/College Background

TheDepartment of Health & Human Performancein theCollege of Health Professionsis seeking qualified candidates who have a demonstrated record of success in teaching and professional service that are commensurate with an appointment as Lecturer to begin fall 2025. The position is a nine-month, non-tenured faculty position. The position requires teaching undergraduate courses in kinesiology or exercise science, serving as a field supervisor for practicums, serving as a student academic advisor, service on university, college, and departmental committees and taskforces, community engagement, service in the profession, and performing other duties assigned by the department chair. Given that UTRGV is a distributed campus, faculty will be required to teach in various settings, incorporating technology and student-engaged pedagogies to maximize student success, and may be assigned to teach face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online courses. Service to the department, college, university, community, and professional organizations is integral to the faculty member’s responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications

An earned master’s degree from an accredited university in kinesiology, exercise science, or related field.

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications

Earned master’s degree in kinesiology or exercise science is preferred, with a record of success in teaching and a service record in the field. Experience teaching at the college or K-12 school level with demonstrated excellence in using varied teaching modalities and a service record in the professional field.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in teaching at the college level is highly desirable, with demonstrated excellence in teaching and service. Having K-12 teaching experience with teacher certification is highly desirable. Active participation in professional organizations in the field and evidence in curriculum development. Able to teach a variety of lecture and activity courses in kinesiology.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program ( ORP ) instead of TRS , subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
