Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities
POWER Engineers is seeking a Substation Electrical Engineer to work as an Electrical Engineer II in the Power Delivery Substation Department in our Richmond, Virginia office. Responsibilities
The Electrical Engineer will share responsibility with the rest of the department to produce a product consistent with POWER's mission statement and our culture. They are expected to support the department in achieving the goals of the department, maintain POWER's high-quality standards, promote internal teamwork and meet the needs of our clients.
Perform the detailed design of low to extra high voltage substations including, but not limited to:
Station physical layouts
Cable and conduit plans and details
Ground grid design and details
Foundation plans and details
Structural plans and details
Control enclosure design and details
Lightning protection plans
Yard lighting plans
Bills of Materials
Support QA/QC for deliverables to clients.
Support proposal development.
Support project budgeting, project scheduling, and project reporting.
Shall understand and adhere to client standards and processes while working individually or within a team to complete complex and technically challenging designs.
BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) or BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology) degree, from an accredited university preferably with a power option.
Two (2) or more years of experience in substation design.
Experience in 15kV through 230kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite with an emphasis on Excel and Word.
Experience filling the role of substation electrical engineer for several projects occurring concurrently.
Demonstrate the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, tracking and organizing many tasks of varying importance and size.
Proven ability and desire to mentor and help others.
The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.
Three (3) or more years of experience in substation design.
Experience in 230kV through 500kV substation design.
Professional Engineer license (PE)
An understanding of substation equipment and its function.
Experience with MicroStation (V8 or newer).
