BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY :

At CarMax, we want to disrupt our industry by empowering customers to buy a car on their own terms. As a Senior Engineer on Nexus, you will be part of an exciting team tasked with reconceptualizing our Enterprise inventory systems to increase vehicle visibility for our customers and the organization.

About the position

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer who will be part of a team focused on building robust, enterprise level capabilities for our Inventory platform. Your experience building complex, scalable systems coupled with expertise around API’s, services, and cloud-based technologies will help craft innovative solutions to meet our business goals. As a senior engineer, you will work on our product team alongside our product manager, analysts, and other engineers to design, build, and implement services and applications.

What you will do – Essential responsibilities

  • Design and develop services & applications using a variety of technologies. Technologies include .NET (C#), cloud-based PaaS / IaaS/ CaaS, third party solutions, API gateways, enterprise service bus and messaging middleware platforms.

  • Develop Azure cloud solutions using services, functions, and other key cloud platform components.

  • Implement continuous integration and DevOps practices, including automated testing.

  • Develop robust monitoring and alerting.

  • Create technical and support artifacts for applications and integrations.

  • Participate in after-hours on-call support rotation as the support expert for team owned platforms and applications.

Qualifications and requirements

  • Strong teamwork skills, ability to learn quickly, excellent written and spoken communication required.

  • Experience with API design and development required.

  • 5+ years of full stack application development experience required.

  • Hands on programming using C# .Net or Java, and Azure required.

  • Experience integrating cloud-based technologies and solutions required.

  • Experiencing scripting Infrastructure as code in a CI/CD pipeline required.

  • Knowledge of JSON and XML concepts, frameworks, and standards, required.

  • Experience working with Agile and DevOps methodologies preferred.

  • 5+ years of technology experience in a business environment preferred.

  • In-depth knowledge of relational databases, SQL and NoSQL knowledge and experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of API Gateway technologies, preferred.

Experience in the following

  • Microsoft .NET (C#) or Java required.

  • Microsoft Azure or similar cloud technologies required.

  • REST API design required.

  • Knowledge of SQL Server relational databases required.

  • Knowledge of NoSQL databases preferred.

  • Experience with Typescript/JavaScript for production system using React preferred.

  • Familiarity with HTML / CSS preferred.

Work Location and Arrangement: This role will be based out of the Richmond, VA CarMax Technology Innovation Center or the Dallas, TX Technology Hub and have a Hybrid work arrangement.

Work Authorization: Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
