The Control Systems Technician (CST) assists and supports plant personnel in configuration and maintenance of components of the control system including the control system networks across all three production units at the site. Among the control system maintenance key focus area of this position will be in network security relevant tasks like managing user access, endpoint security deployment, support to vulnerability management, and network component configuration. That also includes user education, user software and hardware support, troubleshooting support and monitoring of essential systems and software. The CST will apply control system and network knowledge to support the development, implementation, commissioning, and ongoing validation of plant systems. The CST will work with a team of Technicians and Engineers to maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the process automation systems in the plant. The CST will be a member of the site Automation and Process Control team (30 people) with impact on day-to-day operations as well as future success of the facility. As such the CST will also support project teams to realize the objectives of technical programs and projects involving automation and process control technology. Continued technical and professional development is required in this position to ensure the facility remains up to date on control system and network technology.

RESPONSIBILITIES DESCRIPTION  ​

  • Works closely with Site Automation and Process Control Technology Leaders and Team members, Maintenance, IT, and other Technicians to support the business, production unit and user needs and priorities.

  • Provide network support for the Process Control Networks at the site, incl. regular maintenance and monitoring of network assets, backup systems and vulnerability assessment tools.

  • Implement improvements in systems capabilities that will increase system security and control system reliability.

  • Monitor and assure endpoint security of process control system components.

  • Support implementation of network changes and expansions

Your key responsibilities will be/what you’ll do:

  • Safeguards information system assets by identifying and solving potential and actual security problems.

  • Protects system by defining access privileges, control structures, and resources.

  • Recognizes problems by identifying abnormalities, reporting violations.

  • Implements security improvements by assessing current situation; evaluating trends; anticipating requirements.

  • Determines security violations and inefficiencies by conducting periodic audits.

  • Upgrades system by implementing and maintaining security controls.

  • Keeps users informed by preparing performance reports, communicating system status.

  • System Monitoring (Backups, Patch status, Antivirus)

  • Supports Incident response and investigation

  • Maintains Asset Inventory and classification

  • Automates and manages existing automation of process functions

  • Ensures that the control software management is adequate and applied to achieve the site’s goals.

  • Provides support, basic administration of control systems including monitoring and upkeep of applications.

  • Acts as a resource for operations and maintenance, coaches' teams and individuals' tasks and activities associated with area of responsibility.

  • Assists in developing and achieving control system goals and ensures tasks are completed.

  • Member of a team that provides support, as needed, to control systems across the site for reliable 24/7 operation of production assets.

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Requirements:

  • HS Diploma or G.E.D (required)

  • Advanced understanding of TCP/IP, common networking ports and protocols, traffic flow, system administration, OSI model, defense-in-depth and common security elements.

  • Hands-on experience analyzing network logs, network data

  • Experience with vulnerability management (preferred)

  • Knowledge of network architecture and design

  • 3+ years of relevant experience

  • Good track record in troubleshooting and problem solving.

  • Assignment will require occasional on-call support.

  • Special Consideration given to candidates with Associate Degree in Network Administration, Cyber Security or similar, relevant Certifications like CISCO Certifications or Microsoft Certifications
