Compensation: $140,000 - $185,000 annually + bonus potential!

This is a full-time position based in Richmond, B.C. with option for hybrid work upon completion of requisite training.

Position Summary:

Core-Mark is seeking an experienced and innovative Senior Transaction Tax Manager to join its Richmond, B.C. based team. The Core-Mark tax department is a team of highly skilled tax professional committed to personal, professional and organizational growth. We operate in a fast-paced growth-oriented business environment.

Reporting to the Director – Tax Operations, the Senior Tax Manager will manage a team and will be responsible for all aspects of Canadian and US transaction tax compliance. You will participate in tax research, tax compliance, tax audits, process improvements, and other department projects as assigned.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for overseeing the accurate and timely preparation and filing of US and Canadian sales and excise tax returns

  • Responsible for reviewing and approving tax compliance working papers and account reconciliations

  • Manage, mentor, and develop junior tax staff. Lead teams in delivering high-quality tax services while managing internal and external relationships

  • Provide tax expertise and audit support to Core-Mark’s US and Canadian warehouse personnel

  • Direct large, multifaceted tax projects, ensuring timelines and budgets are met. Resolve issues and make decisions related to complex tax topics

  • Provide expertise on tax regulations, including the implications of changes in tax laws, and advise on strategies for minimizing tax liabilities

  • Conduct tax research as required, and prepare technical memoranda where appropriate

  • Monitor federal and state legislative developments and perform analyses to evaluate the impact to Core-Mark’s operations

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with warehouse and corporate personnel

  • Effectively communicate with internal staff, taxing authorities and outside service providers on tax compliance matters

  • Proactively seek opportunities for process improvement, data management opportunities and other efficiencies

  • Participate in Tax Department projects as assigned

  • Potential for travel – within Canada and US

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

• Business Degree/Diploma with emphasis in Accounting or Tax or Masters in Taxation

• Minimum of 8+ years of progressive experience in public accounting and/or Corporate tax department handling tax high volume compliance

• Proven work experience leading a team as a Senior Tax Manager or Senior Tax Team Lead

• Advanced understanding of tax laws, especially those pertaining to Excise / Sales Tax experience, including experience specifically with US tax

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required

• Accounting Designation – CPA (US or Canada)
