Pacific Northwest National Laboratory Associate Lab Director (ALD), Operational Systems in Richland, Washington
Overview
The Associate Laboratory Director (ALD) for Operational Systems leads the Operational Systems Directorate (OSD), stewards its core capabilities, and is responsible for its performance. This position reports to the Laboratory Director and is a member of the Laboratory Leadership Team (LLT). This position is accountable for the integration of OSD with all other PNNL organizations to achieve the PNNL mission. The role supports a range of strategic initiatives and tactical activities including management of all facilities and infrastructure; environment, health, safety, and security; campus planning, engineering, and project management; and nuclear operations and assurance programs. The directorate comprises over 700 technical and support staff including about 250 members of a collective bargaining unit.
Responsibilities
Develop and execute the vision and strategy for OSD.
Lead a team of senior leaders who manage facilities operations, infrastructure and capital projects, construction management, environmental health and safety, security, and nuclear operations in accordance with expectations of the PNNL prime contract.
Steward Laboratory facilities as part of PNNL’s Operating Model (one of the capability management lifecycles)
Accountable for the financial performance of the OSD directorate and the timely execution of capital projects and PNNL initiatives
Influence a variety of stakeholders and establish collaborative relationships within PNNL and with key external stakeholders, especially the U.S. Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest Site Office (PNSO)
Set and achieve critical, financial, safety, security, operational, and programmatic measures.
Deploy robust and diverse hiring practices and develop the next generation of OSD leadership.
Maintain operational excellence and full integration across all organizational elements of OSD and other organizations within PNNL.
Represent PNNL operations at executive committee meetings, external interactions, and board and community engagements.
Build strong collaborative partnership with research organization to ensure safe and efficient operations.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of study with 20 plus years of progressively responsible experience in relevant disciplines -OR- Advanced degree in relevant field of study plus 18 years of progressively responsible experience in relevant disciplines. Disciplines to be considered include facilities and infrastructure; environment, health, safety, and security; project management; and/or nuclear operations and assurance programs.
Line Management experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Five years experience in a wide variety of operational environments, such as those involving radiological or nuclear hazards.
Five years experience in facilities and infrastructure management, emergency and threat response, and scientific capability development.
Five years experience in capital project management for government research environment.
Additional Information
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance.

Background Investigation: Applicants selected will be subject to a federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter in accordance 10 CFR 710, Appendix B.

Testing Designated Position
This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). The candidate selected for this position will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing for illegal drugs, including marijuana, consistent with the Controlled Substances Act and the PNNL Workplace Substance Abuse Program.

To obtain this credential, new employees must successfully complete and pass a Federal Tier 1 background check investigation. This investigation includes a declaration of illegal drug activities, including use, supply, possession, or manufacture within the last year. This includes marijuana and cannabis derivatives, which are still considered illegal under federal law, regardless of state laws.
