As a Commercial Loan Officer, continually identify, develop and maintain a quality network of business relationships that serves as a recurring source of referrals for new lending opportunities. Responsible for exploring and pursuing new markets for loan products, analyzing loan requests and preparing written evaluations and recommendations for approvals, as well as coordinating the loan closings, ensuring that documents are properly prepared and executed. Arrange for and coordinate technical assistance to existing and prospective borrowers to help them improve their current operations and/or future business plans.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Work with present and prospective customers within SBSU’s banking area with a focus on growing a small business loan portfolio.

  • Qualifies potential customers; builds rapport and establishes trust; asks questions to discover client business needs; applies product and market knowledge effectively; presents solutions that meet customer objectives; manages and documents sales process.

  • Actively participate in community organizations and activities in a manner which reflects favorably on the bank. Maintain close contact with local businesses, professionals, customers and prospects.

  • Cooperate with, participate in, and support the adherence to all internal policies, procedures, and practices in support of risk management and overall safety and soundness and the bank's compliance with all regulatory requirements.

  • Work with the Business Services Specialist to promote and cross-sell other banking products and services as appropriate to meet customers’ small business needs.

  • Help develop innovative approaches and ideas. Identify and analyze potential loan markets to develop prospects for business loans. Provide loan data to support marketing and sales promotion programs.

  • Establish and maintain effective relations; exhibits tact and consideration; assistance and support to co-workers; work cooperatively in group situations; work actively to resolve conflicts. Collaborate with and support colleagues and peers across the organization.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field

  • Five plus years’ experience in a financial institution as a Commercial Loan Officer

  • Progressively responsible experience with all types of small business loans

  • Have profitably managed a high-quality loan portfolio

  • Understanding of loan documentation, credit analysis, laws and regulations affecting the banking industry and computer systems necessary to prepare loan analysis.

  • Have experience, the ability, and initiative to develop a portfolio of quality small business loans that provides excellent customer service to the borrower and profitable relationships to the Bank.

  • Have a desire to be active in the community and will represent the Bank well in all interactions.

  • Must pass a credit & background check

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Small Business Administration (SBA) loan programs and policies including 7A & 504.

  • Demonstrated success in prospecting, generating leads, closing business and consistently meeting/exceeding production goals.

  • Verifiable, established network of referral business including business owners, professionals, and other centers of influence.

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

  • Strong computer skills including a fundamental understanding of Microsoft Office Excel and Word applications. Additionally, will need to learn and be proficient in using loan origination, and automated underwriting systems.

Education

  • Bachelors or better in General Business
