NetMod Engineer Responsibilities:

Design large, complex traffic migrations for TDM equipment. Lead on-sit network discovery and circuit audit activities including CO & site evaluations.

Support engineering survey activities including.

  • Identifying type/number of ports wired and equipped on legacy system(s)

  • Working with customer to determine Intra-system cabling between floors/rooms

  • Determine which system(s) traffic will be migrated from/to

  • Determine the Feature Package of all related equipment

  • Determine and understand port capacity types and quantities required to system engineering

Support network discovery activities including obtain circuit records (e.g., local logs, OSS systems, TIRKS,etc..):

  • Ability to access legacy TDM equipment to retrieve system data and support decommissioning efforts.

  • Capture/record office layout.

  • Identify hardwired equipment to legacy systems

  • Capture types of DSX and LGX panels being used

  • Identify if cross-aisle panels will be used in traffic migration process

  • Obtain cross connect map and parameters of signals of all related systems

  • Understand detailed site circuit physical audit, determine cable/fiber runs and all connector types.

Create complex migration plans:

  • Ability to extract data from equipment logfiles, OSS reports, and EMS systems and format into csv or excel format.

  • Analyze extracted data to formulate compression, consolidation, and decommissioning recommendations for both office and system level.

  • Developed detailed method of procedure to migrate legacy circuits including necessary fallback procedures.

  • Create migration cutsheets with all pertinent data for field personnel to implement.

  • Provide technical support for field personnel as needed to support migration efforts.

Provide on-site training as well as remote and on-sight oversight during migrations:

  • Must be available to travel to site to provide on the job training for field technical resources (FTR).

  • Provide oversight for complex migrations to include remote technical support of FTR .

  • Lead resolution of any potential issue created during migration process.

  • Create job aids to assist FTR resource in the implementation of migration and decommissioning activities.

Expertise should include:

  • Experience designing and implemented large scale migrations services for customer networks

  • Experience with engineering, Planning, and/or Operations knowledge, especially with Local and Long-Haul Telecommunications networks

  • Knowledge of traffic remapping processes including the ASIST feature in Tellabs DCS, High Speed Wraps and Hot Cuts

  • Knowledge of telecom CO’s layout, functional areas, sight recognition/understanding of office equipment

  • Knowledge on several generations of transport equipment: M13, DCS, ADM, MSS, WDM, DWDM etc.

  • System familiarity with multiple equipment vendors such as Fujitsu, ALU, Cisco, Nortel, Tellabs, etc.

  • Knowledge on major legacy equipment platforms such as Nortel, Lucent, and Soft switch

  • Knowledge of traffic remapping processes

  • Knowledge with DSX-3, DSX-1, LGX, Test Equipment, Troubleshooting, Patching & Rewiring

  • Familiarity with all Telecommunication customer types: Wire line, Wireless, Enterprise, MSS, CLEC, etc

  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.

  • Four or more years of strong configuration and trouble-shooting experience.

  • Experience making independent decisions based on policies, practices and project requirements.

Fujitsu salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. ​ It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each situation. The pay range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to: specific skills, qualifications, experience, and comparison to other employees already in this role. The pay range for this position is estimated at $94,850.00 to $151,760.00 USD. Additionally, this role may be eligible for a short-term incentive based on company results and individual performance.
